Hey all! A new tutorial! Yay! We take this pic:
Click! and make it into this icon:
I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, but this is very translatable and easy!
1. Take your pic, crop it, and reszie it to 100x100 pixels.
2. Duplicate your base layer (layer: duplicate layer, or for Photoshop users, Control J), and set it to screen 100% opacity,
3. Make a new layer (layer: new: layer for Photoshop, or for PSP users, Layers: New Raster Layer). Set this layer to exclusion 100% opacity. Click on your paint bucket tool, and fill the layer with this color: 000933 (navy blue).
4. Make a new layer, or for PSP users, a new Raster Layer. Click on your paint bucket tool, and this time, fill it with 075c92 (a few shades lighter than the previous blue we used). Set this layer to soft light 100% opacity.
5. Go down to your base, duplicate it, bring it to the top, desaturate it (adjust hue and saturation in PSP: make the saturation -100 and in Photoshop, go to enhance: adjust color: adjust hue and saturation, or control U, and set the saturation to -100: ), and set this layer to soft light 100% opacity.
6. Make a new hue/saturation adjustment layer. You can do this in Photoshop by going to Layer: New Adjustment Layer: Hue and Saturation. In PSP, it's Layers: New Adjustment Layer: Hue/Saturation. Set the saturation in this layer to +50 in the Master mode.
7. Take your base, duplicate it, bring it to the top, and set it to soft light 50% opacity.
And that's it! Add text or brushes if you want! Remember, this probably won't work with every image, mine was dull looking. Play around with your opacities.
That wasn't so bad was it? I'd love to see the outcome if you try this! Please credit me if you post this somewhere!
