A Blade Of Grass

You ask for a poem.

I offer you a blade of grass.

You say it is not good enough.

You ask for a poem.

You are indignant.

You say it is too easy to offer grass.

It is absurd.

Anyone can offer a blade of grass.

You ask for a poem.

And so I write you a tragedy about

How a blade of grass

Becomes more and more difficult to offer,

Waaaaaait a minute, aren't you the one that always finishes his entries with sub-standard emo lyrics?

Look Spence, I know we've had our differences but blaming a poem that must be the antithesis of 'pretentious wank' for your current life situation is ...just plain mean! I'm crying as I write this!

Edit: I'm not Brian Patten.

I'm fairly sure, and until this day remain unconvinced any other way, that any poetry written in the past 80 years is rubbish. We lost our ability to convey feeling with obscure language usage after WWI. Emo is the new poetry.. its far more up beat and down with todays modern society. It sells well too <3

Ahem.
I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked through the negro streets at dawn, looking for an angry fix.

Compare and contrast:

In the right place at the right time, I'll be dead and gone you'll be just fine, I won't have to quit doing fucked up shit for anyone but me...

As much as I dig a lot of emo music, in fact it could even be construed that I myself am 'emo', it ain't got nothing on the Beats. Also there is more recent stuff that is equally awesome, try and find 'A Cold Coming' by Tony Morrisson I think, describes an interview between a dead Iraqi and a journalist during GW1. In fact, buy, borrow or steal the Bloodaxe anthology 'Poetry with an edge'. There is a lot of dross but some real gems in there.

One of my friends knows someone who was proposed to with a blade of grass. They were sitting on a hill and the guy just twisted a single blade into a ring and said 'What do you think?' Possibly one of the most romantic proposals ever.

That is. Much cheaper too.

By the way, are you eating enough in Austria? You look like you're wasting away.

Sigh. I guess in my horribly peverse style, I'm trying to compliment you.

Knowing your constant pursuit for 0 body fat I'll take it as a compliment from your perspective!

Otherwise . . . must be the Austrian air!

Have you read 'And nothing is as perfect as you want it to be' by Brian Patten? Tis one of the most beautiful poems. EVER.
And some contemporary poetry is absolutely wonderful. There's a lot of wank too (check out some of the latest winners of the poetry.com running competition if wank is what you enjoy reading) But some of it isn't. Honest.
