May 31, 2012 20:53

I talked about this with inuyatta a while back, and if inuyatta is reading this, feel free to add extra defence points in the comments and I'll post them in the entry ( Read more... )

Aaaargh, I had a long comment typed out and then LJ ate it. But excellent post. Suffice to say:

- It's telling that Hinata and Sakura (and Ino, poor Ino) are the ones who are always bashed for being useless. As though winning a fight against more powerful opponents is the only way to be useful. I have yet to see hate directed at Sasuke for losing to Lee -- who is also his peer. It's probably the same people who think Sakura is weak and silly the entire time before she learned to throw a punch that could make craters.

- The bitch/whore thing actually makes no sense to me. There is NO relevance to canon whatsoever, at NO point does Hinata behave remotely badly to anyone. People just like taking the ~opposing love interest (or possible love interest) and pushing her into some badly fitting stereotype. I actually read fic like that, where Hinata was secretly terrible and ripped heads off teddy bears, and I was left going ( ... )

Only a couple of times. Antis coming in to say, "Well, I hate Sakura because blah blah Kage arc killed her development" or "Akatsuki are badass and sexy, which is why people like them, while Sakura just does shitty things and pisses people off". Fucking hell, what part of THIS IS NOT A BASHING COMM do people not get?

Word to all your comments, also. As for the girls being Sues, they're hardly involved in the plot these days, so how either of them can be a Sue is beyond me. Maybe in fanfic, yes, but not in canon.

ETA: and I think people forget that the weakest member of Team 10 is not Ino - it's Chouji. Not that that stops him getting bashed, the poor guy may as well be an honorary woman, the amount of hate he gets.

Kage arc killed her development? Watch me laugh. I think the very fact that she was willing to kill the boy she has spent three years loving, even if she couldn't go through with the deed in the end, is a huge thing for her. God forbid that she feel something even though the manga draws such a strong line between emotionless weapon and good shinobi.

It's the Madonna-whore complex speaking. If you're a good guy/nice girl, then EVERYTHING YOU DO HAS TO BE MORALLY GOOD. Complexity, what complexity? We don't want any individual characters around here!

D:

How can you hate Chouji! HOW?

Because he's fat, he's not a superbadass / overpowered like the Raikage or Jiraiya or Madara or whoever, and he cries, pretty much. Mainly the first point. If Chouji was skinny, he would be liked a lot more, given how much fanart there is of skinny!Chouji compared to normal Chouji, and that whenever someone makes a pro-Chouji thread, there's always people going 'fat fuck', 'fat bastard', 'great blubbering vagina', and making jokes about the Akimichi clan all dying of heart attacks or exploding or whatever. Admittedly I was pissed off with how he nearly got himself and his team mates killed, and Asuma, Chouza and Shikamaru were right to be angry, but he got out of it in the end ( ... )

Great defense!

And Die For Our Ship can go DIAF. It's particularly ridiculous, because considering her a "threat" implies Naruto has no will on his own and incapable to choose who he wants as a girl/boyfriend. I'm not sure that's what the bashers want to say about their favourite character...

I'm not even sure she'd do or say something cruel to an enemy, tbh...

Hinata in my fanon does kill people, but she takes no pleasure in it and generally tries to get the job done as quickly as possible. I can't imagine her getting off on hurting others, even if they're enemies.

And Naruto is a stroppy boy and he's hardly some little weakling who lets everyone decide things for him.

Nice, love. Nice. >;3

To refine some points, there was absolutely jack and shit Hinata could plan in regards to Pain. The problem with Hinata in battle is that she is ALWAYS matched up against a haxxed enemy--enemies that even give the titular hero pause, and even though she loses physically against these opponents, she always manages to save Naruto in one way or another. These are not the actions of a spineless wimp, these are the actions of a determined, gold hearted underdog.

Additionally, you are so right on the stalker bs. She doesn't stalk Naruto in canon, and she's never made him the sole focus of her life. Hinata was very clear when she explained that he inspired her to fight on, so she's taken the lesson to heart and molded the concept into her lifestyle. She will fight on no matter what happens because Hinata promised herself that she would always give it her all.

Haters to the left, Hinata is awesome.

And I often suspect that enemy's name of being Kishimoto.
