The first pebble roused him, and the second gothim up out of bed. He wrapped the sheet around his waist and made his way to the door, rubbing his eyes and yawning. When he got up, Padfoot jumped up on the bed, taking the place next to Greg.

On the porch, he scanned the darkness and saw Owen there, pale in the moonlight. "Hey," he called quietly, then descended the steps. "Owen? You all right?"

Now that Owen had Jack up and outside, he wasn't quite sure what he wanted to do with him. He scuffed his sandal on the ground, letting the rest of the pebbles he'd picked up fall and scatter by his side while he shrugged. "I guess," he muttered. He felt like he should apologise for waking Jack up, but it wasn't like they had to go to work or anything in the morning. It was a bit chilly though and now he was kinda wishing he'd thought to put a shirt on, but the compound wasn't where he wanted to be at the moment so he'd just deal with it.

Jack crossed the ground slowly, picking his way over the twigs and stones. Of all the people who turned up out of the blue, Owen wasn't one he expected.

"What's going on?" he asked, holding the sheet in place with one hand around his waist and reaching out to hold Owen's bicep lightly.

There were somethings that could be said for the simple gesture of Jack's hand on his arm. He shook his head slowly before raising it to look Jack in the eyes in the darkness. "Don't tell me you don't already know," he said quietly, feeling stupider by the minute for having come here.
