fifth flower

That rain wasn't going to make the flowers grow at all!

And people got hurt, too...

That's just not fair! Now nothing is gonna grow... and I bet the flower I saw at the lakebed... is dead now...

Don't worry Harriet! We'll grow lots of flowers soon, okay?

There's a forest here, so there has to be some kind of fertilization.

Even with that funky rain in the soil?...

Well...I don't know! I guess we'll have to watch the forest and see.

Until then, we just have to be optimistic! Maybe if we smile lots, the plants will smile too.

Smiling will help them grow?

If something has grown in this wasteland before, it can likely do so again.

Life is remarkably adaptive.

I guess... But still! I'm angry!

Anger at nature? Yell at the clouds, see how much good it does for you.

All we can do, like the life in the ground, is adapt to what is given to us.

Angry at... that one guy. He knew this was coming, but he didn't say like this! He said it would help the plants grow!...

Harriet. At least you got to see the flower.

If you saw one... I'm sure there will be more, somewhere.

... I hope so... it looked like... one I was kinda looking for. Even before I came here.

You were looking for a flower?

Can I ask you why?

... It was my mom's favorite. But it only grew on the Legacy, so... she didn't have any live ones...

And... I thought I saw one in the lake bed...

I do not believe this is this first acid rainfall this city has experienced, Lady Harriet. If it grew once, it will grow again.

Plants are brave. Even if they look fragile and weak, they never give up, even in the harshest of conditions. This time, your flower will be even stronger than before. You'll see.

You really think so?...

... I'm gonna be like the flower, then!

Of course.

You won't have to try too hard, Lady Harriet.

I wished for more flowers. I wished, but I knew my wish was a futile one. Pity how fragile they truly are. Flowers and wishes.

Why can't there be more flowers?

I'm sure they try. They try their best to stretch out their leaves and turn to the sun. But the sun is hidden. It's hiding away. And the recent rain only keeps them down.

A pity, really.
