Appearance.
"My Unit 02 is the world's first real Evangelion! Created for actual combat conditions, it's the final production model!"
For a girl of fourteen (physically, at least), Asuka is well-developed. Puberty has been kind to her, giving her curves and long legs, though she's only a little taller than five feet. She's very slender and may even be underweight. She's petite in every sense of the word, but she does have some muscle due to her Eva training. Her posture tends to be very casual, but she can quickly straighten up and become imposing, despite her small body.
Asuka appears to be Caucasian for the most part with red hair and blue eyes; maybe a little on the pale side. But her eyes have a slight slant to them, the only true sign of her Japanese heritage. Asuka's hair is her pride and joy. She wears most of it down, which reaches her waist. The front part is almost always pulled back, out of her face. Most of the time her hair is held back by her A-10 nerve clips, which are a part of her plug suit. If she's not using those, they're just normal hair clips.
As for clothing, Asuka likes cute things. Skirts and dresses are what she tends to lean towards, though she's not opposed to shorts or jeans. The more leg, the better! She also likes showing cleavage. And then slapping people if they happen to see something.
She usually has her arms crossed or a hand on her hip. Asuka knows she looks good, and doesn't hesitate using that to her advantage.
History.
"Strange beings are attacking us. If you're going through a fire, you've got to brush away the embers, of course."
Asuka was born to an American man and a Japanese woman, Kyoko, who worked in Germany on the Evangelion Project. A contact experiment accident with Unit-02 caused her to lose her mind. Kyoko's insanity led her to treat a doll like Asuka and call it her daughter's name, asking her to die with her and at one point Kyoko attempted to kill Asuka. However, Asuka still loved her mother completely and wanted her to still be her mother. Asuka's father wanted nothing to do with her insane mother or Asuka herself (as her mother reminded Asuka). He began a relationship with Kyoko's doctor.
Asuka pushed herself to be the best at everything in order to get her mother's attention until the day she was found to be the Second Child, chosen to be the pilot of Unit-02. But when Asuka ran home to tell her mother, she found both her and the doll hanging from the ceiling. Her mother had committed suicide. From then on, Asuka clung to her identity as a pilot and swore to never cry again.
Her father remarried to her mother's doctor, and her stepmother found Asuka to be impossible to get along with and a little frightening. Eventually, Asuka was sent to Tokyo-3 three to help battle the Angels. She lived with Shinji Ikari and Misato Katsuragi, going to school (despite having graduated from college already), and training. Her spotlight was often stolen or shared by Shinji or Rei, and as time went on, Asuka's mental state became more and more unstable--she would be outwardly violent towards people she hated (Rei) and people she liked (Shinji). She was saved by Shinji when the fifteenth Angel attacked, and that further caused her anguish. Her synch ratio with her Eva fell to dangerously low levels and despite orders to stay back, Asuka continued to pilot.
Her past came back to haunt her when the Angel Arael caused her to relive her past and reopened old wounds. Her mother's suicide and her messed up childhood came back fresh, and Asuka was made aware of how fake she was to everyone around her. She fell into depression and lost her will to live. NERV found her and took her to the hospital, where she stayed in a coma and was replaced by another pilot.
On the eve of the Third Impact, Asuka was placed into Unit-02 and submerged in a lake. Asuka then realized that her mother's soul was in Unit-02--meaning her mother was always with her, protecting her. Back in action, Asuka fought off nine mass produced Evas. However, the power in Unit-02 ran out and the other Evas were still able to function even after being mutilated by Asuka. Unit-02 and Asuka (who was still linked to it) were impaled and dismembered numerous times, Asuka's eye gouged out, arm split in half, and insides spilling out just like her Eva.
In short: She was pwned.
Yet after all of mankind is turned into a sea of LCL, she was on a beach with Shinji as the only two people left. Shinji attempted to strangle her, but her only reaction was to stroke his cheek gently with her hand. This caused Shinji to sob on her chest, to which she says the series' final line: "How disgusting."
Personality.
"Then you’re a toy, just like I thought! You’re an unthinking, emotionless doll and I hate you! I hate everyone!"
The pamphlet that was released with the End of Evangelion movie gives this description for Asuka: A high but fragile wall. A tightly stretched thread. The fear of not being needed.
This is a very accurate description.
Asuka comes across as a bitch. She's overly-confident, outgoing, conceited, pushy, loud, and a little violent. Her superiority complex is the size of Russia. On top of that, she's moody. One moment she's friendly and laughing, the next she's verbally or physically attempting to rip someone a new one. People have a hard time grasping Asuka, and don't really bother to try because it's easier to assume she is just a bitch that will get hers one day.
(And she does, in the end.)
The mood swings and superiority complex are all a front. And like most fronts, they stem from her traumatic childhood. She's a victim of horrible circumstances. Asuka's ego is actually a fragile thing, and she will desperately lash out to keep people from damaging it. Asuka wants to be noticed, wants to be special, and wants to be an independent adult. And she doesn't want to remember how her current personality came to be, nor admit that she realizes that she's messed up. Admitting this would be weakness. So she represses her trauma and things that make her unhappy. With a mother that killed herself and a father that quickly remarried, Asuka came to believe that she could only rely on herself. To some extent, she is much more mature than other girls her age--but at a steep cost.
She tends to push people away. Her personality can go from charming to cruel in a second, and once Asuka deems someone unworthy of her charm, she doesn't humor them for long. Asuka forced herself to grow up quickly, refusing to cry even after her mother killed herself. She doesn't like relying on others, but at the same time hates being alone. She wants to have close friends, but is afraid of letting people see how miserable she really is. She believed herself to be a grown woman, which is why she went after Kaji, a much older man.
Conveniently, being a pilot gave Asuka some portion of the attention she craved and assurance she would not be thrown away. It gave her power. Yet she placed her whole worth on being an Evangelion pilot, so when she was unable to sync with Unit 02, her facade began to crumble around her in all the worst ways. Losing the battle to the angel Zeruel, and then having her mind literally raped by the angel Arael, only to be rescued by the girl she hated, Rei, sent Asuka into a deep depression. She was unable to cope with losing her identity as a skilled pilot. Hiding her problems, and never learning how to deal with them were her undoing. Asuka graduated college at 14, so while she focused on training and studies, she never focused on her emotional issues.
Despite her mental instability, Asuka did not want to die when it came to the end. She did not want to die with her mother, and she rejected Instrumentality at the end of the series; refusing to lose her physical form and join the rest of humanity in a sea of LCL. A brief glimmer of her kindness also emerged at the end of the world: she caressed Shinji's cheek as he cried.
Essentially, Asuka is very easy to hate and very difficult to love. She can be immensely cruel to those around her, vicious in battle, but inside Asuka is a good girl that just wanted to be strong and independent. She's messed up in the head, and actually has low self-worth, but it's amazing she's managed to keep it together at all given what's happened to her.
Unit 02.
"Even without my umbilical cable attached... I've still got 12,000 plates of fortified armor! And I've got my AT field!"
Evangelions are bio-mechanical fighting units. NERV, using samples of the first Angel Adam, supposedly created Evas to fight off the Angels and protect humanity. In actuality, they were created to initiate the Third Impact... which turned all of humanity into orange goo or tang or LCL or THE NEXT STEP OF EVOLUTION.
While Evangelions are part mechanical (the armor on them actually restrains them) and have a pilot, they bleed. Their sizes vary in the series, but they're HUGE. A human can very easily be engulfed by a hand. Contact experiments are done with each Evangelion... tragically landing them with a human soul. This gives them an A.T. Field, capable of blocking attacks from pretty much every man-made weapon ever. Evas also run on external power--they lack S² Engines, which give Angels limitless energy. The Evangelion Units can only run for about 5 minutes without an umbilical cord plugging them in. They can also regenerate, which is very handy since they tend to get damaged a lot.
In order to control the Eva, the pilot needs to sync with the Eva. This depends on the mind on the pilot and the soul that's in Evangelion. Pilots usually wear clips, a plug suit, and are submerged in LCL (a liquid that delivers oxygen directly to the blood and... actually smells like blood!) Evas are controlled by thought and manual controls in the native language of the pilot.
If the Eva is damaged, so is the pilot. Their nerves are linked to the Eva. If the Eva's arm is cut off, the pilot will feel as if their own arm was cut off. But it's only at high sync levels that damage to the pilot is actually sustained. Also, sometimes the Evangelion goes into Berserker mode--when synch levels are off the chart, and the Evangelion is pretty much wild. This only happens under extreme circumstances, however.
Asuka's mother's soul is in Unit 02. Asuka's Eva is the third Evangelion created, and the first one created specifically for combat against the Angels. It also has reddish-purple blood instead of red like the others... weird, huh? D8
During Christmas of 2009, Asuka got her Evangelion in Paradisa. However, it was downsized. It's now about 13m or 43ish ft tall. Tony Stark, the Tenth Doctor, and Dr. Horrible all worked together to create a power source for it.

Triggers?
Talk about mothers, dolls, suicide, birds... she has a lot.
Medical info?
Asuka's fit as a fiddle.
Mental info?
Oh boy. If you look inside her head, you'll find a mess. She's constantly doubting herself regardless of how confident and assertive she might seem.
Physical contact?
Depending on who it is she might accept it, but most of the time she'll shy away unless she initiates it.
Romance/sexual relations?
OH LAWD. Asuka is prone to crushes, but she still has the body of a fourteen year old despite being seventeen...
Injuring/killing?
Injuries are fine, but killing is not!
Anything else?
Feel free to drop me a line if you want to do anything involving her Evangelion.
