I'll hop on AIM a bit later. Funny even before you wrote the little note at the end I was going to ask about FFXI. Are you going to do comp or PS2? If you end up on server Kujata, I've got two characters there, that I'd be more than willing to help you level up. I'll be doing the PS2 version, if you can get a worldpass, I'll jump on your server. I'll need all the help I can get. I'm starting Red Mage. I have a plan, hopefully Squeenix will fix some things before I get to the end of it, otherwise I'll have to change my plans... I was thinking Redmage to 30 then switching to Summoner. Blackjet thinks that it's a lot of work for not much gain, and the online community is pretty much saying the same thing.... we'll see, if anything I'll just become a bard. I may get on as early as tonight...

Which race do you plan to go for? Elves have it hard, but damn, they do look nice when they are casting. Taru's kick butt with any magic, though I'm not sure I've seen any summoners. My Elvvan is a red mage and currently stuck at lvl 15. On the other hand my Taru is a white mage at lvl 11 and rising fast. I wanted to go Dragoon with my elve and summoner with my white mage. Wait and see what happens, but it's nice to have a plan! (Yesh, I've been playing far too much!)

for a summoner, there is only the Taru. Sumoners need exorborent amounts of MP, and Taru's get it in spades. Funny that such a tall person like me will be playing the shortest race in the game...
