musings on River Song...

So I've been rewatching the RTD era of Doctor Who and I've got to wonder some things about River Song, now, I know there are a lot of theories about River Song out there and I don't really want to go into great detail or anything because I know lots of people have rehashed the subject of River Song so many times but there are a few things that ( Read more... )

Frankly I'm sick of hearing about her. But my mother's theory is that she's The Doctor's future wife and most likely even Amy's mother, convinced that Amy is as well The Doctor's other/secret daughter.

Her reasoning for the daughter thing comes from 1.) The shooting of the Fez, that they seem to work together as a team without any effort and, of course, the red hair. Plus Amy's parents weren't around when she was a kid. Or that we saw. I think I remember a mention about a grandmother, but not her actual parents.

Haha I'd forgotten that you don't care for her either, I really cannot wait for her storyline to be over and I honestly hope that we don't see her anymore.

I try not to express my opinions about it a lot because not liking River is a big minority.

Although, I don't know, I can't really see her as the Doctor's wife, and we did meet Amy's mom in the finale, so I'm not sure but I have seen that theory before.

I'm assuming they end in handcuffs a lot, possibly the thing (killing/"killing" the Doctor) that got her into the custody of the clergy dude earlier.

I can't quite recall the Library eps, but isn't she just rambling on about her reminisces and not paying attention to him? The continuity error I find is that she goes on about how he hasn't aged a day, when he in fact has an entirely different face any other time he's seen her (assumedly).

But, I kinda love her.

I guess she goes on about recognizing her before he even makes mention of it, I think what bothers me is that she is so smug about the whole thing, I don't know, I guess we will see.

Well since more of my f-list here is a fan of Doctor Who/more willing to respond I had to post here about it.

I agree with what you say regarding that she should realize that he wouldn't deny knowing her, and what gets me is that she's so smug about it when she should know very well that his timeline doesn't work in order.

I was never much of a fan of River exactly because of this problem. River recognizes Ten. And then Ten regenerates. So wtf.

But recently I've come to terms with the fact that we don't ever see everything in the Doctors timeline. Just because we don't ever see when River first meets Ten (from her perspective) doesn't necessarily mean it didn't happen. I'd be happier if we could have had that storyline resolved while DT was still around, but DW has never been the most consistent of shows, so I'll just enjoy what they do give me. :D

I've got to say I am amazed when someone shares my feelings on River because it is such a minority.

I really do think that SitL/FotD is the first time River meets Ten, I mean I do understand that not everything can be seen on-screen but I feel that, if in fact River and Ten did have adventures while off screen, it would be...not cheap per say but robbing us of some important interactions I guess, but that's just me.

River grew on me in Series 5 because she does have her awesome BAMFy moments, but yeah, I was not happy when I heard she'd be back.

And I'd be fine if SitL/FotD was the first time River ever saw Ten, but she seemed genuinely surprised that he didn't recognize her. =/ idk, I think we might have to take it as one of the many inconsistencies of Who. :(
