There are days when I never want to let you go, and days I feel like I should.

Exciting day, this.

It took so much of his willpower not to start off the day by jumping on his friend while the guy still lay in a deep slumber. With great care to his planning, Simon spent his past two days setting up something amazing. Not just for any boring old day, either.

Today is Miles' 19th birthday.

And Simon will not let it end without his very special present.

The line to the theater was longer than he had expected, but they managed by playing various 'Oh my God, I'm so fucking bored' games such as Slaphand, Name The Movie, and Eye Spy. Eye Spy ended with a bug that was on Simon's collar and promptly got squished after a bout of flailing and skittish dancing. Many laughs were had by dear Miles.

"I'd like two tickets to 'Tonight'." It should have been the first clue, but Miles hadn't said anything if he even had noticed. Popcorn, candies galore, and icy slushies by the gallon. Finally, they could continue.

With the tickets torn and the lights dimming just as they entered, Simon escorted Miles up to the suspiciously empty theater room, so they could have the best seats in the house; right in the middle. The lights lowered into silence, and the music drained into the faint hiss of the still active stereo.

And then Darkness.

The screen, with silver gleam and white-based, alights with a projected glow. The blurred letters of a soundless monologue clears until legible. On this day, oh friend of mine, there are many gifts that paper wrappings and ribbons cannot contain.

A pause.

Here is my gift to you, sir.

The bottle hits the craft, and the nerd just smiles. The music is too loud to yell over, and it would ruin the moment if he did. So, Miles gets to watch the screen fill with music and lyrics that say a million things Simon's coding and nerdy humor could never be able to tell.

Happy Birthday, buddy. I love you.

happy birthday
