dead car battery, dead monitor, sister visiting..UGH!

"Well, actually I was looking forward to a few hours after getting off work since my sister and family were visiting my parents and I was obligated to stop by. I go outside to take an extended lunch (boss on vacation) and my car battery just goes clickety click. Man! I go inside, call and leave a message with dad since I know they are down at the pool. Later he and mom come out and jump it. It starts, but I'm then too afraid to go anywhere. I get off work and it's dead again, so I go down to the pool store to see if someone can jump it. They do and I drive straight to dad's where he puts it on a charger for 3 hours. I called at lunch and made an appointment with the Toyota dealer for oil change, battery check, and get a service notice taken care of. I've never had the battery changed before (2001 Rav4) and with the heat, I'm sure that's all it was. I stayed and visited with my sister's kids (I won't even go into that ordeal-my sister's the one that Dorothy's house should have landed on).

Dad called me Saturday morning to see if it started. I told him I would check since my appt was later and there was no reason for him to come now to jump it, in case it croaked again. He had to come over and jump it and off I went to the Toyota dealer. I took Deathly Hallows with me since I was only halfway through it. (NO SPOILERS) Got all the Rav fixed up along with the requisite list of stuff that would eventually need taken care of soon, and went home.

I had noticed a monitor problem with my computer when reading FF on a white screen. Small lines rolling up the screen, but it didn't interfere with the letters or anything. So I decided to try SP2 update for about the 6th time in a couple of years. I *think* it went through this time even though it said part of it failed. LOL! It allowed me the IE7 update, which is for SP2, so things are going swimmingly. I wake up early this morning and trudge into the living room to see the monitor looking like a tv does when the picture tube is going out. Violent lines and jiggling all around. After tearing the monitor apart and cleaning it, I didn't see it improve. When it's first turned on after being cold, it appears to be working though the IE edges are off the screen. After it warmed up, it whacked out again.

Went to mom and dad's for lunch/dinner so we could rag on my sister and dad found his old Gateway monitor in a box in the garage. He couldn't find the software, which I thought I might need. I took the monitor anyway and hooked it up and now I'm off and running...for now. Screen seems quite a bit smaller than what I had before, but at least it's working out. I saw some 17-19" flat panels for sale from all different manufacturers for less than $200 in the sale ads. That will be my next purchase in a couple of months, I figure. My tower needs cleaned since the fan doesn't seem to be working. I got instructions off dad's computer to help me along with trying to fix it. I should be doing that now, but since I haven't been reading many journals until I could finish LJ, I was up to over 700 messages that I got down to 300, but with all the messing about the last few days, I'm over 400 again. Is there no end?

Mom told me not to complain. A guy down in Oklahoma that the family knows had their mother go into the hospital with Alzheimer's, the father died not long after, and their house got flooded in the recent Oklahoma floods.

Other work-related news. I've been applying for other jobs. On July 5th, my boss comes in from "lunch" which turned out to be a meeting. He told me he had sold the business (verbally) and that July 13th would be his last day. It put me in a bind, since I was wanting to look elsewhere, but felt bad about leaving the other people in the lurch. Unfortunately, I was going to be responsible to both of them for a while with prorating bills, etc. The deal didn't go through and then my boss goes on vacation for two weeks, while I fight with people, installers, etc. I'll try to give him two weeks notice if I do get another job, but almost feel that he didn't bother giving me two weeks notice for himself when he thought he'd be leaving. I started buying $1.00 worth of Hoosier and Powerball tickets in the hopes that someone might hear my pleas!
