For the smoke, at least...snobahrOctober 31 2011, 04:17:50 UTC
If the place has/had drop ceilings - the crumbly ugly ceiling tiles that turn baby-poop brown when wet, those will hold scents like nobody's business. If atmospheric conditions align on a not-too-precise scale of Just So, that scent can get released back to the room the tiles are in.

Yeah. Even though I we can't tell where the smell is coming from, it could be something circulating through the building through cracks and vents, but to me the white lady the residents complain about is what makes me curious about this tale.
I agree with the first commenter. Smells are difficult to prove since scents can be absorbed into various materials in a place and be released when the conditions are right (high humidity is bad for that). I'm not saying that is always the case but the possibility of it being the case makes ghost scents hard to prove

Yeah. I've always read that smells can be debunked easily, kinda like orbs. It was just odd that it was smoke and so strong. I believe I forgot to mention that it was winter time and the area where residents on the other floors smoked , the smoke could have travelled into the building through doors opening, cracks and vents.
The lady in white is a whole other story it seems, but the residents still complained about the smoke.
That sounds pretty intense there! Thanks for sharing your story. Very interesting. :)
I've had a few experiences of smelling phantom smells. Always in my home though. One we had an opium smoker haunting my mother. That was unpleasant, it was a thick, heavy smell that engulfed you. Another time I smelt the prettiest fragrance I've ever smelled go right by me as I was watching TV (in the same house, actually), however that only happened the once and it was NOTHING like the stench of the opium that hung in the air around you. And another time I was in my room getting dressed (different house), I was on my own and I smelt a perfume I didn't recognise. Over the space of about a minute it got so strong my eyes were watering. It was like someone had poured out an entire bottle of perfume in front of me. When I left the room for some air, I couldn't smell it in any other room and when I went back into my room again a couple of minutes later, the smell was completely gone

I sometimes get the smell of perfume or sweet smells that I am not familiar with. No one in our house wears perfume, but they do put on scented body lotion, but the smell isn't strong or lingers around. A friend of mine who has paranormal activity in her house complains of multiple smells, but she can't wear perfume since it causes her to get a rash.
As for your work place, that seems odd. Might be a trickster ghost if it is paranormal. Thanks for sharing your story.
I just goggled the place and the image just screams haunted. I've heard of haunted places giving off smells that stink to high heaven. It could just be due to age and mildew, but if you say that the smell occured even in your house I can assume something could have followed you.
Thanks for sharing your story and have a safe Halloween. :>
I work at a school located inside of a mall. Like a lot of the stores, the school has a little passageway. Mall employees use the passageways to get to work in the morning since the other doors don't open til ten in the morning. It's a creepy passageway and a few of us believe that there's something out there. People get shoved or get their hair tugged on. It's not just the passageway, though, but in the different rooms of the school. We have motion detectors so we know when people are coming and going and sometimes they go a little nuts. We've dubbed the 'ghost' as Gary. Anytime things happen we make a comment about Gary, even the people who don't think there are ghosts coming to school in the morning.
