In the schools in my service area, police would be called, children would be arrested, charges would be filed, CHINS petitions would be granted by the courts, and DCF would often become involved. I wonder why your principal has given up on trying to make a difference.

Ideally, that would be happening here. But this scenario begs the question, who would be doing the calling? Individual teachers? We don't really have the authority ... or the time. Our disciplinarian? Our family coordinator? The principal? None of those three seem to follow through.

Our schools are smaller, although I am not sure if the Worcester ones are or not. Our principals seem to do the calling. I've not heard of a school having a separate disciplinarian, or a family coordinator.

I am curious about the role of family coordinator. Do you know much about it?

She seems to mostly do outreach to Spanish-speaking families, trying to get them involved in the school. She also schedules and coordinates our open houses, and I've seen her arrange day care for our students with babies and home tutoring for students who can't come in for various reasons.

BTW, the title "Dean of Students" sometimes translates into "disciplinarian".

Isn't this a science and technology pilot-magnet school? I would have expected that to attract only highly motivated students.
