A few more books read in 2011

The Passage by Justin Cronin . I tried. Story was intriguing. Writing was well done. But at 700 plus pages and considering the high "creepy" factor, I had to put it down just short of one hundred pages - I've got to spend time on other things. Bet it will make a great movie, though!

I haven't heard of the first two authors, but many years ago read Elizabeth Lowell (Ann Maxwell). I quit when the book I was reading was so horrible I couldn't finish it. I never gave her another chance. Not forgiving of me, huh? You were on a roll before you gave up television for Lent, yes? Nora's new book, Chasing Fire comes out on April 12. I will have to try and stash some dough to buy the Kindle edition. I'm excited about it and don't want to be disappointed! ;) What book are you most looking forward to reading, Roberta?

I wonder what Ann Maxwell that was that was so bad? But I know what you mean, sometimes you feel a book entering "turn back!" territory and then that is that. I was glad to pick up these 2 at bargain rates because I wasn't sure they were my cup of tea but I really liked them both. Of the two Shadow and Silk was the clear winner - very well done. I finished one by Ruth Reichl yesterday - another one well done. I liked what she had to say about fabulous women who were pigeon holed by the culture and society back in the 50's and her spin on her mother's bitching and moaning about her missed opportunities was actually giving her license to rebel. Ruth was the NY Times Food Critic for a number of years so this worked for me on two levels: foodie and memoir. I liked it a lot actually. Am now reading, Some Girls: My Life in a Harem. Not too far in yet but it's intriguing to think someone who make the conscious choices she did. I think you would might like some of Francine Rivers. One of her books: Redeeming Love was the best ( ... )

I just checked my database and found the book I couldn't finish was under her pseudonym, Elizabeth Lowell, called Too Hot Too Handle. That was back in May '98. The Girl was an infant, and maybe her mama was just too frazzled to get into it. Could be, eh? At the time I read them I enjoyed her Only series - Only His, Only You, Only Mine, and Only Love. The first featured Arabians in it!

I have 3 library books here. Reading The Girl Who Chased the Moon and have the final 2 books in the Lily Bard series by Charlaine Harris to read. By the time I finish those I may be able to read Chasing Fire.

Our local library has neither The Sugar Queen or The Peach Keeper. The library across the river has the first but not the latter. I submitted a "Request to purchase" for The Peach Keeper to our library, but not having done so before don't know what happens next. I can order The Sugar Queen via ILL though and just wait for the other book.

So much planning, but well worth it if we enjoy the books, right?
