So after longing for summer we are now bound to take cautionary measures when venturing out due to the heat wave. Longing for a pleasant medium

I live in a townhouse so my front garden is the size, more or less, of a postage stamp. At its best, it is rather wild and beautiful (in my humble and biased opinion). This year, however, my beloved yellow lilies failed. Every year, they are profuse, plentiful and drop dead gorgeous. Last fall I also planted a few other varieties of lilies, one a deep red, one a large white with red centres, and a white variety with light speckles. They all bloomed and for a couple of days, the garden was spectacular. Then very quickly - almost overnight , it seemed - everything got chewed to bits. I apparently had what many others in my city were getting: a lily beetle. Looks like a slightly elongated ladybug. And they had voracious appetites. Since pesticides were banned here recently, the garden centre said there is really nothing to do except pluck and squish 'em. Gross! I plucked but chose to toss them into a ziplock and let them suffocate. Oh, I am cruel. But my garden is now dead, dead, dead and I have no mercy. Maybe I will copy and repost

Everything IS coming up! Coming up beautifully. I love that wonder of nature where things bloom at different times so as one fades another comes to color. The textures and blooms sometimes so different, but all beautiful...even some varieties of weeds are quite lovely, aren't they?
I am so at odds with summers here. I enjoy it all well enough through the windows of my home. The idea of getting out of the air conditioned house occasionally seems like a good idea, but when I'm outside sweating and slapping at insects...all I can do is run for the house and shut out those highly unpleasant things.
Good for you...taking care of your yard in spite of it being summer!
