I have a kind of love-hate realtionship with Hoffman. Some of her books I really enjoyed, others I couldn't force myself through.

You walked up Masada? You lived in Israel? Ah, we ARE soul sisters! I've long wished to be in the desertscape of the Holy Land. A place that, despite my abhorrence of heat, is a place that speaks to me. The way Hoffman describes the light at each part of the day and year is so vivid. She has the gift of words for certain.
Re: Love/Hate with Hoffman - I couldn't agree more. Either I really, really like it or I put it down pretty quick. I forgive her the "misses" though because she has a great track record. The Dovekeepers was long and winding but I kept coming back for more.

We never talked about this? jessibud December 7 2011, 12:09:36 UTC
I lived there for 6 and a half years, way back in the 70s and 80s. A million years ago, it sometimes feels.

A conversation for another time, for sure...
