I'm thinking the best case scenario would be for the neocons/jesus panderers to take this as a clear mandate for their policies, causing the more libertarian members of the Republican party (the real Repubs) to get pissed and splinter off, forming a classical liberal party (fiscally conservative, socially liberal). They can unite with moderate Democrats and form a massive political force to be reckoned with, resulting in a smaller, transparent government and a rebirth of civil liberties.
