Step 1: aquire Mexican food
Step 2: Texas thunderstorm
Step 3: Visit the Alamo
Step 4: Through some magic trick of perspective make the Alamo appear even smaller than its already surprisingly small size.
More Alamo
Step 5: meta-picture/
shadowgeist-ass-picture combo
Step 6: Ditch the Alamo and head for the Mission Trail (which is much cooler). This is Concepcion
More Concepcion
Step 7: Mission San Jose
More San Jose
The clouds were framed perfectly by this old stone window. Unfortunately my camera-phone is ill equipped to deal with the contrast. Trust me, it was awesome.
Meta-picture #2. Some professional photographer was taking portraits of the girl in pink, monopolizing the most scenic spot. Punk.
More San Jose
Step 8: Mission San Juan. We arrived after 5, so the gates were closed. We parked out front and walked in.
ash_grey_sky elected to remain in the shade while
shadowgeist and I explored.
More San Juan
It was at this point that
ash_grey_sky called to report that she was now driving laps in the car to prevent the tow truck that had just showed up from taking the car away. We cut this visit short. Since it was now well past 5 and we were worried about further tow trucks we decided to save Mission Espada for another trip and headed home.
Step 9: Visit the Riverwalk. This is San Antonio himself.
More Riverwalk. As I've been here before you'll notice there aren't any pictures of the river itself. That's the boring part.
What I've neglected to mention is the all important Step 0: have a large, incredibly hospitable family of a friend to stay with. Extra points if they make you eggs, chorizo, and fresh tortillas for breakfast. Perhaps I'll write more soon about the trip itself, instead of just a photo post. If not, however, this basic summary should suffice: I had a ton of fun,
shadowgeist's family made us feel welcome right away, I need an old mission to live in, and I had a ton of fun.
