Fire because of her hair, bright red, making it easy to find her in a crowd, as though she is a signal fire and he is a wanderer.

Fire because of her personality, because that’s the word her teachers use to describe her: fiery. The adults watch the two of them together and chuckle, because how is it that meek

I forgot to tag it: it's pre-series! Most of my Rory angst fics are, because I have this vaguely unhealthy interest in exploring how inadequate Rory must have felt at times during their early relationship. I think it's really telling that Amy only says "I love you" to Rory when the Doctor doesn't exist. Fortunately, she's getting much better at that, but until their wedding, I think Rory must have had a lot of confusion and doubt about her feelings for him.

This was initially something completely different, but the idea of comparing them to a house on fire totally overtook me, and that line was one of the first things to come to me. Yay for inspiration out of nowhere? LOL! Thank you! :)

Thank you so much! It's part of what I like exploring about Amy--she puts on a very strong front most times, but sometimes she just breaks and you realize how badly the Doctor has damaged her. The pain in her voice when she asks, "Well, why did you say five minutes?!": that's just the essence of her, to me. Her strength seems to come from so many years of anger and pain, and Rory was the one to help her through that. I've liked exploring that in my fics, for certain.
