I think that what bothered me was not so much that she posed as the seductress as it was the fact that she had to be the seductress at all. I haven't reread "Scandal" in some time (I plan to soon), but Irene never struck me as overtly sexual in canon. Granted, the mores of the day were different, and there had to be something there, considering she was the mistress of a king. But it was her brains and not her beauty that she used to foil Sherlock, and here so much more focus was placed on her beauty and her sexuality, I felt, that it kept distracting me from her brains ( ... )
