Dear flist: Have you been to San Diego? tell me about San Diego. what would you do there? is the zoo seriously THAT AMAZING? Should we put aside an entire day just for that? we'll be staying in the downtown area, on Coronado, so anything north of, say, SeaWorld/Mission Bay is probably not worth the travel time as we're relying on public transport ( Read more... )

bring me that horizon

AAAAAHHHHH THAT IS WHERE I AM FROM!!!!

YES, the Zoo IS that amazing. It is world famous! You should definitely go, DEFINITELY, and give it the WHOLE DAY because you can pop off to Balboa park and the museums (THE MUSEUMS!!!) there if you're bored of looking at the wonderful happy animals in things that are NOT cages who are being taken care of by the finest zoologists in the whole damn country, YES THE ZOO GO. I just. I have so much to say! What are you looking to do, more local San Diegan things or touristy things?

We're definitely doing the zoo, I just wasn't sure if I should put aside a whole day for that and a separate day for the museums, or try to do it all in one day. I love museums, though, I think even without trying to fit the zoo in there I'd have a hard time doing all of the ones I want to see in one day. do you have a favourite? right now we're looking at the Museum of Photographic Art, Natural History Museum, Museum of Art, and/or the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. and personally I find the New Children's Museum pretty appealing, but the roommate doesn't seem to be going with me on that ( ... )

The zoo is awesome and you should definitely go! I would probably give it a half day (depending on how long you're going to be in San Diego) starting when they open, and then maybe try to see something else in the afternoon/evening, just because the animals are usually more active earlier in the day. Of course, I'm always happy to just wander around or sit on the beach when I'm in California, so I might not be the best judge. =)

yeah, we're going to be doing a lot of sitting on the beach I think :D I think our trip is like... five days four nights? I keep forgetting, I'm the worst. we've all sort of agreed that the zoo sounds cool but not necessarily that OMFG AMAZING, because we've all been to a lot of great zoos before and I feel like the only big difference would be seeing animals you haven't seen before? like, I'm interested in the pandas of course. pandas! but I don't know if I can really commit to a full day of just walking around watching animals do animal things. or watch them sit around in the heat. or whatever.

(though at least they probably won't be as hot as they would be here, UGH the weather is disgusting right now! bleergh)

PS

MISS GRACIE
I MISS YOU TERRIBLY

WHY DID IT TAKE 4 DAYS FOR THIS REPLY TO SHOW UP IN MY MAILBOX.

Lame.

Anyways! I would definitely say that a half day at the zoo is enough, but then I've been to lots of awesome zoos, too, and really, there's not a ton of difference among them. I would be more inclined to go to Sea World, but then, I would rather see sharks than pandas. I would also try to get some good Mexican food ~ which you can do for not a ton of money there ~ and then just wander. Or, y'know, sit on the beach and watch people.

And I would love a postcard if you have a chance!

Miss you muchly!

YAAAYYY hahaha when I tell people I'm going to San Diego everyone keeps reacting like "BOO YOU WHORE, SOOO JEALOUS" so I'm pretty sure it's going to be amazing.

How much time do you think we should assume we'll spend at the zoo? what exactly is there to DO in the Gaslamp Quarter other than walk around and go OOH IT'S PRETTY? we were kind of just like HMM WHERE SHOULD WE GO and picked based on awesome weather and having not been there before, so we have basically no actual plans yet. yay?
