badfalcon needed something to help keep her sane while coding today, and so I offered to tell her a story. The prompt was "kitten!Chris/vampire!Steve, why don't you sparkle?" And once I was done, she declared it adorable enough to post. :hides:
Steven lets his fingers trip over the strings of his guitar as he sits outside the cafe. It's the time of year he loves - winter, so it's dark very early, but not so late in the season yet that the cold sends everyone inside. Children are still playing in the park across the street, slowly being gathered up by their parents as they finish their shopping at the tiny stores lining the street. He smiles to himself as a pair of ears poke up over the edge of the table, followed by a pair of big blue eyes that watch his every motion on the guitar carefully.
Steven finishes his song and puts the guitar away. He glances over his shoulder to find the boy still watching him intently. "Hello kitten."
"My friend Stevie says that his cousin Jensen says that everyone thinks you're a vampire," he says without preamble.
Steve can't help but chuckle, even if he does wonder who 'everyone' is. "Is that what they say? What do you think?"
The kitten tips his head, sitting up more and getting just a little bit closer as though he's trying to tell just by looking. "Sometimes Miss Sam babysits for me and she says that vampires are very pretty and that they sparkle."
Steven nods as though it's very serious. "Well, as you can see, I don't sparkle."
The kitten wrinkles his nose a little, considering that. "Stevie says that she's wrong cos sparkling vampires is just stupid." Steven has to laugh at that. He doesn't point out that he agrees completely. The boy leans forward a little, still watching him closely. His ears tip forward as Steven laughs, focused entirely. "You do have very sharp teeth," he says at last. "And you kinda smell different." His ears twitch a little as he weighs the facts, and then he nods. "I think you are a vampire."
Steven winks at him, and the kitten preens a little and chirps happily.
