Follows this.Ewan settles into his quiet corner, mostly unnoticed, and sips his wine. Unification Day is not the sort of day he likes to be without lodging, but it can’t be helped, for the moment at least. Tomorrow business will return to normal and he’ll get a flight off this rock. He smiles to himself, because he’ll be leaving quite a bit better off than when he arrived, thanks to one heiress and her idiot fiance

They’ve been taking turns, and Steven is the worse for it, because of course, of course they’re holding him down. Ewan can’t see much through the press of the soldiers, shoulder to shoulder as they cheer on whoever’s taking his turn, but he sees the flash of brass, can hear Steven’s choked groan over the laughter and jeers.
