Cooking

I'm trying to cook more often and I'm finding that my house still smells like food when I get up in the morning. I don't like that! I use the vent when I cook and crack the kitchen window but I can still smell food. I'm not even using potent stuff like vinegar or fish sauce (used in filipino dishes) but garlic and onions tend to linger around here ( Read more... )

use a charcoal vent filter in your vent and change it regularly (at least once a year, twice/yr is better).

uh...you have to change the vent over the oven?? I didn't even know that. Makes sense now. I better take a look.

the filter fits under the mesh thing vent cover that comes with your hood vent. sorry, i don't know what it's exactly called.

it sounds like you're doing everything right. We usually light a few scented candles if its really bad, and that seems to help. I was gonna suggest changing out the filter, too. If its really, really bad, I'd open some windows (throw on some jackets) and air out the house. ;)

If I'm frying anything or grill fish, I always cook it outside. Those are usually the scents that are hardest to get rid of.

LOL, I have the windows open and were playing in the kids rooms. The kids got sweaters on too. Plus I just started my crock pot so that def ain't helping anything. I think it will be a never ending issue if I cook everyday.

I'm off to Target to get some yummy candles and another bleach pen for my counters.

Maybe you need a stronger fan inside your vent?

What I need is a new kitchen. I give Randy grief that it's our counters cause there's grout and all the food/juices get caught there. The clorox bleach pen is my best buddy these days. Our appliances are 10 yrs old so maybe it's time to upgrade to some energy efficient stuff.

We usually just open up all of the windows. Yes, even when it's like, 30 degrees out. ;) Usually after 15 minutes, it's all good. I'd check out the filter, too, to see if that may be why the "stink" won't go away.

I always use candles. Lots of candles. I am a candle girl.

You could also try Oust which is an air sanitizer that takes odors out of the air, doesn't just mask them.

I wish I had more time to make nice family meals. I need new ideas. I cook the same old crap all the freaking time.
