Danny knelt down in front of Grace, whose red rimmed eyes were filled with tears, “Danno loves you so much Monkey. You know that, right?”
Grace nodded and threw herself into her father’s arms, “I love you too.”
Danny kissed the side of her head, “I’ll be there for your birthday.”
“Promise?” Grace asked, pulling away from Danny to look him in the face, “Pinky swear promise?”
Danny freed one arm and held up his pinky, “Pinky swear promise. No later than your birthday.”
Grace took hold of it with her own small pinky and shook them solemnly. Danny gave her one more kiss before standing, “Go on Monkey.”
Grace started towards her mother and Stan before she stopped and glanced over her shoulder. She sobbed and ran back to give Danny one more hug before making her way towards Rachel, who was waiting impatiently by their bags.
Danny watched as Rachel lifted their daughter into her arms and started for the tunnel leading towards their plane. Grace lifted her hand and waved at him. Danny swallowed thickly and returned the wave. He was still waving even as the plane drove down the tarmac and flew off into the night.
