Wow ... it sounds amazing.

I've always wanted to visit Shanghai to see exactly that sort of thing.

Sadly, my attempts to purchase said item were mightily limited by my knowledge of Cantonese, which is entirely borrowed from Deadwood and Firefly.

On the upside, I think I am now in a gangwar with any number of market-dwelling triads.

Sounds goddamn awesome... that your piece had me picturing myself there.
Never been there, but feel my wanderlust rising again.

Hong Kong has a very particular smell. I only found it once in Sydney. If you want to revisit it, go to the back, ground floor entrance of the Wentworth Building at USYD, next to the coffee shop Azurri. I don't know what causes it, but it took me back to Hong Kong instantly. Probably some kind of wormhole, or designed to give the International students a taste of home.

My sense of smell is utter shite since a nasty flu about four or so years ago, so I missed out on that. Though one Brit I was there with did state that HK smelled "like arse. My arse, is what Hong Kong smells like".

I congratulated him on his flexibility.

Perhaps this guy also works at Azurri.
