Oh Look, I'm Still Alive
Hi. I'm still hanging around. Life proceeds apace, with less time than I'd like for fandom-related pursuits. I've got a couple drawings that need to be finished up, a couple fic ideas that I might actually write for once, and no time to do either. Ha ha what else is new.
Uh, I finished my Anders rivalmance run? And holy shit, was that fucked up. Hawke was the nicest, most diplomatic person ever and yet I hated him so much because he was about 1000% privilege-denying dude, what with his "Well, the Circle wouldn't so bad, if you were just nicer and more patient and gave Templars a chance and were willing to compromise and stopped being so angry and have you ever considered how the Templars feel about it?" I even kind of started losing respect for Anders because AUGH WHY ARE YOU WITH THIS DIP HE VERY CLEARLY DOESN'T RESPECT YOU AS A HUMAN BEING NOOOooooooooooooo which is terrible of me. At least Bethany kind of called Hawke out on his shit in the end, though it was clearly too little, too late for Serah It's-For-Their-Own-Good. A nice final touch was that Varric did not mention Anders staying with Hawke, as he does for... every other LI I've done thus far, even my Complete-and-Utter-Asshole-Hawke and her Merrill rivalmance. My theory: Anders killed himself, and Hawke was sad for a while and blamed the curse of magic and never, ever understood what an awful person he is, the end. This is a very sad story, and I think I need to cleanse my palate with another run of my canon Hawke, who is not, y'know, emotionally abusive.
In other news, let me just say that modding DA2 is possibly the most frustrating thing I've ever attempted. I can copy the code for an ability verbatim, transfer it so it's linked to another tree, and suddenly it doesn't work. There may be something baked into the code somewhere that mages can't stealth, because the initial animation fires, the sound effect pops, and then... nothing. Nothing. At. All. Varric drops in and out of stealth just fine, Hawke throws a smoke grenade and nothing happens. Worst ninja ever? :| Ultimately, I may have to rethink my planned spell tree, which isn't a huge deal, but mage stealth was one of the things I was really hoping to get in there, because fucking mage stealth, that's why. Going to let that one sit and work on some of the less ambitious bits tonight, we'll see how it pans out.
Ooooh, note to self: try transferring it to another rogue tree, and see if it works for Varric. At least then you'll know if it's something about the transfer or something about mages.
