012: Just a leisurely winter stroll

Dec 08, 2010 18:41

[It might seem like a perfectly normal sight. Jack in a winter coat walking Mitch along a path in a snow-filled park. The dog barking at everything that resembles a squirrel. Jack stopping to sit down on a bench for a moment, working on tying a loose lace on his boot. Well, that's as far as the normal gets, because hanging from his other wrist is a ( Read more... )

Quite the menagerie you have here, isn't it? [[this is said rather deadpan, but there's a small smile visible behind her scarf. her hands are shoved in her pockets as she stares.]]

[He looks up and grins lopsidedly as Maddie starts running around his other leg and essentially tying that one up. When the ferret finishes, she stares up at Natalie and blinks all beady-eyed like. Jack, however, hasn't noticed.]

Compared to the farm, this is pretty decent.

I would assume. [[her hands pop out, now rubbing together to be kept warm.]] How've ya been, Jack? It's been awhile since I've seen your face.

Oh, ya know. Ups and downs. We all have 'em. How about y--

[Suddenly, Jack jerks to the left, forgetting for a moment that Mitch's leash is still tied around his wrist, and once again, Mitch is targeting squirrels. It's a bit funny to see him sideways, you know. He yanks on the leash once, bringing the Shepherd closer as said dog looks only slightly ashamed.]

Damnit, dog. What are ya gonna do with one if ya actually catch it? Ya don't know, do ya?

[ As of late, Gabe has found some peace of mind in said snow filled park. Mostly strolling along and feeding the birds as always to clear his head as always as it seems this is the only thing where he hasn't been yelled at for doing something stupid. Even if it was justifiably so.

He's wearing his usual light but well insulated jacket, warm gloves, the scarf, boots. Out from his daze, he notices the little parade of animals, instantly acknowledging who's animals they are he looks to the bench. His face is half covered by his scarf, noticing that Jack is there. It's not exactly the most 'disturbing' thing he has seen but he's wondering if the ferret could stand this kind of weather. He won't ask too much.

It's been almost a year since that incident, since the guilt took hold, and since even the sight of Jack made him wanted to turn around running in the opposite direction.

Gabe was going to test it. Let's see how long it would take for him to want to run away from this situation again and he wanted to see if at least - he could go ( ... )

[Half tangled by two leashes, and finishing his other tangled string-related project, Jack looks up, surprised at first, and then somewhat pleased. Yes, he's aware of what time of the year it is, and where they stood a year ago, and quite aware of what he thinks Wisconsin thinks of him. Even so, he's supposed to be a good neighbor (more like quiet, but that's different).

Jack decides to test it as well, again. The closer this gets to cleared up, the more relieved he'll be.]

Hey there, Gabe. Looks like ya had the same idea as me, huh?

Heh, I guess. It's 'bout the only place can get some peace of mind. At my ... current residence... it is rather stressful with all the cities in there. We kind of have to get out of the house sometime so we don't ki-- [ Bad move, quick think of a word to replace it. ] ... so we don't 'cause a ruckus of sorts.

[ There is some guilt there still, perhaps it's not a good idea to toss seed when there are animals around that could go after the birds he was thinking of attracting. Still he wants to get this over with, but how he smiles it is just... ]

It seems ya are relaxin' with this weather, huh?

[Good save, Gabe.]

Oh, yeah. Which, y'know, is kinda weird considering usually I hate when it gets cold. But it doesn't seem too bad today. Really, Mitch was just itchin' to get outside. An' Maddie...

[The ferret might just speak for herself when she goes careening down a snow drift, then jumps off and flies into a very pink-and-white blur of a weasel war dance. Someone likes the snow more than her owner, for sure.]

[ He happens to notice him on the other side of the road, and makes his way over. He's still darting between buildings, but he figures Jack is approachable. They hardly talk for neighbors anyways. ]

Hey how's it going!

[Jack might be approaching him sooner, as Mitch suddenly yanks his way toward Sven, mouth open and forming some sort of goofy dog-smile, and tail wagging. Maddie doesn't seem half as excited, instead pawing her way down into a little hole before expressing her dissatisfaction in a tiny huff.

And Jack himself? Well, he's happy, but not about getting his wrist close to dislocated by an overexcited dog.]

Pretty good! How about you?

Been better but it could be worse...

[ He reaches down to pet Mitch. He should really take his dog Gus to meet his dad again sometime... ]

Almost time to get out and ice fish! ya know? I'm a little excited about that. I've been cooped up too much lately.

'Could be worse'? Anythin' bad happen?

[He frowns as he says this, in stark comparison to the dog who is far too delighted seeing someone familiar.]

Though, it's kinda weird, since I've never been ice fishing before. Serious.

He's singing again as he makes his way through the park. His coat is wrapped around him snugly. He's freezing, but he's putting it out of his mind with singing.

[Jack stops tying his boot for just a moment to watch, wide-eyed and slightly amazed. Quaint little farm boy does not have a proper reaction to someone singing out loud like this.]

He stops, flashing a grin at the boy.
HEEEEY! How're ya doin'?

[Still shocked. Still amazed. There's definitely some Elvis in there, but it might be more of the shock value that mothers had in reaction the the pelvic dance moves.]

G-good?

[bundled up in her rabbit shawl, she'll be grinning her head off, a certain wolf hybrid sitting at her side as she comes to a stop. just in case, though, she'll have a finger linked in her collar. mainly because, well, it'd be very unfortunate if she went after his ferret.]
Enjoying the snow while you can?

[Mitch goes to sniff at the other dog, seeming excited to have a new possible friend. Maddie on the other hand nearly shoots under the snow, her tail fluffed out like a bottle brush. Jack laughs at the reactions, shaking his head.]

Ya could say that. More like these two got me out here. That's a pretty dog, by the way.

[the other dog regards his with a sort of superior aloofness for a while of five seconds before she's bolting off into the snow - as if trying to prove that her wolf half will make this snow inconsequential. spoiler: it doesn't.]

Thanks. She's a husky-wolf hybrid. This is her kind of weather, so even if I'd like to sit inside and hide from the weather, she really doesn't allow me.

Really? Mitch's a Shepherd-Husky mix, but he's kinda... Well, he's more of a Wussky than a husky. He loves runnin' in the snow, but like, for a half hour before he gets too cold.

[Luckily, Mitch didn't catch that, instead straining to run with the other dog. Maddie would try, but legs that aren't even an inch long don't really help.]
