I watched both episodes of Spooks, making up for the fact that tonight I hate buses, but that's a long, bitter 2 hours I'll never get back story. However, good to have Harry and the gang return, even if the writers are evil and I can say no more of that evil for spoileryness. Generally, quite action-packed and suspenseful and slightly over-the-top ( Read more... )

It was very 24 actually... In all the worst traditions of that show.

I simply didn't buy into any of it. Spooks used to be serious & quite realistic - but I couldn't help but feeling that this was the Hollywood treatment. It was all just a bit too much - and more than slightly derivative. I think we'd seen just about every major element of that plot (well apart from the obvious one) in episodes before...

I'll certainly keep watching - as the show remains a bit of fun; but it's really not what it used to be (and comparison with the recently re-aired first episode that showed on BBC4 a week or so back, as a part of their Spy season, did it no favours).

It was certainly more alternate universe than it used to be. I was quite surprised at how far it took it, though it was doing it in a way to try to have relevancy to what's going on today. Still, thought it quite entertaining. And I imagine it'll be back to more normal plots next time. Not sure that Spooks has ever had 'normal' plots.

It was fun, even if it was popcorn... And I would argue that the first couple of seasons of Spooks had pretty believable plots (most of the time). Or at least less fanciful ones...

I think maybe though, that's because you have a different perspective on that particular type of conspiracy plot than most viewers :-p Really, to most people, that would have been no more outlandish than most of their plots - remember the "this key will decrypt the entire internet"? Or the "humans are corrupt and deserve to be made extinct" plot? Or even Tony Head's "I'm a rogue ex-agent and I'm going to alter an air-traffic control path and crash a plane" type thing. Hmm, OK, maybe that last example reinforced your point. But really, to Joe Q. McPublic, I don't think this would have been a quantum leap.
