Finchley

Where else can you see
one man, one woman, wearing
dozens of black, tan, red, blue, brown
coats, shirts, pants, skirts, shorts,
mainly only color differing
per person at a distance from the throngs
of a midday road station?
Everywhere.

His sandals lay with him
at water's door
of pink sand as he sits
across from clipper ships,
a geometric equation of himself:

a red bandana
knotted horizontal on his temple,
and olive skin smoother
than the graph of gray clouds shaded in
above his thick, elliptic grin.
