My cadence is often too baritone and emotionally ineffectual, or even droning, to make for a captivating read. Usually I try to emphasize what I can, but I would feel silly or embarassingly overexpressive if I tried to improvise with different vocal tonalities. It's the same problem I get when I'd (very rarely) try to sing. Either I'm tone-deaf or untrained or shy about my low voice and its lack of projection. Plus, I've only really felt comfortable reading to small groups, often of people I know.
