Random THG headcanons

I decided that I wanted to jot down the random headcanons that I've been accumulating for a bit.  I'm not diligent enough to explore these in fic.  Some are grounded in the text, some are merely canon-compliant, others are whimsical.  They're fairly Everlark-heavy (surprise, surprise).

Not even sure if this counts as a headcanon: I've never been able to decide if Katniss and Peeta ever formally marry (but they definitely toast).

Regardless of whether they marry, Katniss keeps her last name, and their kids have a double-barreled last name.

Katniss and Peeta have three children: one girl and two boys. I'm not sure of the spacing between the older two and the youngest.

The Hunger Games (first book)

The forest

In the fall, a few brave souls sneak into the woods to harvest apples. But always in sight of the Meadow. Always close enough to run back to the safety of District 12 if trouble arises. (The Hunger Games, Kindle Locations 67-68)

The alternating pattern of light and dark suggests sunlight falling through the leaves in the woods. I wonder how he knows this, since I doubt he’s ever been beyond the fence. Has he been able to pick this up from just that scraggly old apple tree in his backyard? (The Hunger Games, Kindle Locations 1201-1203).

I think that Peeta and his brothers have been in the forest at least once to gather apples for the bakery.

Mr. Mellark and the cookies

Mr. Mellark gives cookies to all the reaped children, and his family doesn’t know about it.

Peeta's birthday

I think of Peeta being younger than Katniss, with a birthday that falls very close to the cutoff for their cohort.

Capitol propos

While round 1.0 of the Capitol propos caused much disgruntlement for me, I like the teaser that was released. And I've always wondered if Snow ever used the abandonment of the the victors (esp. Peeta) in the anti-rebellion propos. Because I could see the Capitol reminding the Districts that D13 abandoned the country after the dark days, they abandoned the victors (esp. Peeta as one of the star-crossed lovers), what makes you think that YOU won't get abandoned if the going gets tough.

Admittedly, the districts would see right through that as D12 had just been annihilated, but I can see the Capitol trying.

Ahahahaha, mine started in February...

...and still isn't finished yet. :/ It's been hard for me to read them with my family constantly around me tbqh. The Katniss side of me that hates letting other people see me vulnerable and emotional comes out. Anyways, that and my general desire to be far away from the overall fandom is what's prevented me from going forth with that reread we were talking about. Too hard. I probably won't finish Mockingjay until I move out by this point, which hopefully won't be too far away.

Yeah, I just need to enmesh myself in canon right now, and I'm really trying to impose some sort of structure on myself, even if only a framework for random and half-baked ideas!
