I. D.

II. E. I try not to invent general principles without at least three concrete examples to generalize from. I ain't got three universes. :)

I. C ("Which universe?"), or E: "black box"

II. D, or E:
There are many different universes that exist as abstractions of our daily life (e.g. "our daily life"), and then there's the actual, physical thing, of which I know nothing about, hence "black box".

1) E. The full answer is almost totally out of my epistemological territory, but from my own limited, human viewpoint, it seems that the universe encompasses a game, called life, in which robust and rigorous long-term strategies are almost impossible to formulate and in which the effects of one's tactics are therefore largely unknown. We optimize as well as we can, and we are subject to a heck of a lot of randomness (luck).

In a simple way, backgammon is a metaphor for life. Nature is the ultimate killer, and it is totally indiscriminate.

2) E. This is my analysis from a human viewpoint. (A fairly ignorant human at that, since I'm not well-read in the subject to begin with.)
