Character Name; Hayner
Series/Fandom; Kingdom Hearts
Appearance; Hayner has dirty blond hair that is usually slicked back and lightly spiked at the tips; nothing too over the top for this teenager. His eyes are a deep brown with small flecks of gold in the right lighting. He stands about 5’6” or so and is fairly muscular in build, more from rough-housing and struggle battles than actually working.
His style of dress is casual, going for comfort over fashion, sticking to t-shirts, vests, cargo pants, and sneakers. Don't expect anything fancy from him, not when he prefers the "just-rolled-out-of-bed" look. He might not look his best, but on the bright side, he really could look worse. He has some flare for style, since the colors correspond with each other.
As far as accessories go, he's quite simplistic, as most boys are. Hayner sports a necklace with a yellow X dangling from the end, and a brown (sort of) bracelet with silver, circular studs attached to it.
Personality; Stubborn, selfish, and simple-minded.
It isn't likely for anyone to persuade him away from any idea once he has his mind set on it. He rushes into situations recklessly, and it doesn't take very long to peg him as impulsive. Hayner is the type to stick up for what he believes in (even if he's wrong) and expects his friends to do the same - to have his back. He doesn't take betrayal with a grain of salt; when someone says they're going to do something, he expects them to. Not keeping their word leaves them with a very displeased Hayner (possibly even the loss of his trust temporarily), without giving them the time to explain themselves. In that way, he is simple-minded, calling it like he sees it, and letting his word be law.
Still, if the offender happens to be a close enough friend, he can overlook it, and more often than not, that's exactly what happens.
He doesn't like to dwell much, and in most cases, that means he isn't great with holding a grudge. Not to be confused with the idea that there aren't people on his bad side, because most of the world is, especially if they align themselves with losers like Seifer. The two of them are constantly butting heads, displaying his combative nature, whether he means to challenge him or not. Boys will be boys.
Not everything about him is negative. Contrary to popular belief, he can be quite the chum, and friendly enough when he feels up to the task. He's the first to speak up, and he's hardly ever too serious. He likes to joke around, and that includes immature pranks he shouldn't be plotting and taking part in. He can procrastinate with the best of them, and he quite enjoys lazy summer days.
Abilities/Strengths; Hayner has the knack for leadership; he's bold. He doesn't have a problem with throwing things out there and saying what ought to be done on any given day. He will say what others cannot, which often leads to fights. He can hold his own physically in a battle, even if he isn't so hot on comebacks. He isn't the best fighter, he's medicore at best - just don't tell him that. More often than not, he's the go-to guys when people need someone to be strong, because it isn't often that he wears his heart on his sleeve and gets all sensitive. He can be the rock or the shoulder to lean on, even if outwardly he will tell them to stop being so emotional.
Weaknesses; He has a short-fuse and is quick to explode in anger (or rage, depending on who's triggering him), which is a weakness, because it gets him in more trouble than its worth. Hayner is also kind of jealous; a serious drawback. His ego (rather unjustified) is huge and he longs for recognition - coming off most of the time as self-centered. With such an ego, he thinks he can do a lot more than he actually can, and failure to meet these expectations for himself, only ends in disappointment and more anger, because it's easier to feel. The problem with that is being more than a little simple-minded and not being able to see past whatever it is his mind is set on at the time.
History; Hayner's home-world is Twilight Town and it's the only one he's ever known or been to. He grew up in the quaint, unextraordinary place, and while it got boring from time to time, he always found something to entertain himself with. His parents loved him and encouraged him, in the nurturing way that most do, but he couldn't be bothered to let them fret over him for too long, only child or not. He developed quite the attitude problem, even at a young age, but somehow managed to make and keep two good friends; Pence and Olette. In contrast with those two, he was always more street-smart and excelled in sports, rather than studies. He never would have expected more out of life, if things hadn't changed.
Rumors circulated around Twilight Town and took less than a day to spread like a wildfire. It had always been the kind of place, where everybody knew everyone else's business. The hottest topic at the time had been the weird happenings around town, and the whisper of a girl in a white dress, sometimes seen standing in the window. Hayner didn't really believe in that stuff; he was a true skeptic, even if the realist in him sometimes wished he could be an idealist and go for believing in kid things.
Little did he know, the rumor in question was true.
A couple new occupants had taken up residence at the edge of town, past the forest, and deep inside that Mansion. A scientist of sorts named DiZ was busy at work on his super-computer, constructing a digital replica of Twilight Town and all of the people inside of it, including Hayner. The only difference between the program and reality was a blond-haired, blue eyed boy named Roxas, who just so happened to be one of digital Hayner's best friends. He was a part of the group, along with Pence and Olette.
Roxas was a pretty normal kid to virtual Hayner, up until the photograph thieves showed up (and there was nothing normal about those guys.) What kind of freaks were even capable of stealing words? The digital gang set out to prove their innocence and found out more than they bargained for: Roxas was seriously losing his cool.
Starting with losing the hard-earned munny they had all helped gain to take a trip to the beach - something they did every summer, but had neglected during this one. It was the answer to all of their problems and boredom. Digital Hayner didn't know what to think, when Roxas claimed it was stolen by some guy, because as far as he knew, there hadn't been anyone there. If he needed the money for something, he should have just said so.
As the week rolled on, the virtual gang overlooked all of the strange happenings, because to them, nothing had changed. It was all Roxas. Hayner hadn't really been to pleased with him, since he blew off their next chance to go to the beach by spending the day with Seifer's gang, and even almost forgot all about the annual struggle tournament (the one digital Hayner got third place in.)
It seemed like things were back on track, until the day after the tournament when Roxas asked if he had fallen off the clocktower. Hayner had been all too ready to ask what he had been smoking and where he could get some, when Olette's maternal instincts kicked in, and forced them all into shape. The digital kids decided to check out the strange things for their school report, only they all seemed to be flukes (to Hayner's disappointment.)
Nearly at the end of the week, Roxas found his own answers, and the virtual Twilight Town began to crumble (no thanks to the destroyed computer.) And the differences between the two Twilight Towns became less apartment, since the memories of digital Hayner slowly bled through in flashes, whispers of something he should have remembered, all pointing to the name he couldn't quite say.
The real Twilight Town had its own problems, like strangers showing up out of nowhere. Nobody came to Twilight Town; it was the backwater world of the universe, they never got newcomers. A strange mouse in a black coat barged into the Usual Spot looking for some friends, and Hayner couldn't have been more happy to see him turn tail and take off, except some time later the aforementioned trio showed up.
Hayner brushed them off and told them to get lost - really, they had a life to get to. Still, there was something he couldn't place about them, about Sora. He seemed familiar (weird fashion sense and all) but he hadn't met him until that moment, and he begrudgingly admitted the same thing to Pence and Olette. It didn't occur to him to connect the dreams he had been having of Roxas to Sora.
Either way, the familiarity convinced them to say their goodbyes to him as he boarded the train, and though Hayner would never admit it, he felt some pang of sadness to watch him go.
Somehow, he knew he would see him again. He had no idea how right he was.
The following weeks passed by in a blur and on one particular day he found himself wondering what Sora was up to, and not five minutes later, a black portal formed in the center of the wall, and out came some redhead in a pink dress. It piqued his interest and concern; her name was Kairi and she was looking for Sora - he didn't know how, but he knew it was the same boy.
They didn't have much of a chance to talk, when another redhead came barrelling out of the portal; no doubt after Kairi. The gang tried to protect her, but it was to no avail. The man in the same strange black coat was a part of Organization XIII and had taken her, before Sora could get there. Hayner and crew felt obliged to try and help him find her.
After all, she was their friend, too!
It didn't take too long for Hayner to put two and two together. They all had been suspicious of an alternate Twilight Town, because of the duplicates of things there should have only been one of. Hanyer, Pence, and Olette explained their theory to Sora, Donald, and Goofy, and then the King when he made an appearance. They all ventured into the Mansion together.
Pence cracked down on the computer as everyone lay in wait, watching. Once it was complete, Sora, Donald, Goofy, and the King went into the virtual Twilight Town, leaving the other three behind, with only the best of luck to wish.
Hayner had a feeling that would be the last time they saw Sora for awhile, but he didn't anticipate ending up in a giant caged city.
