A-Kon 20 convention report....thing

Jun 01, 2009 03:23

Okay, so, this is my account of the A-Kon 20 Adventure; there's some amusing points worthy of note, otherwise I wouldn't write it.

Thursday

We (we being Erin, JT, Panda, Tea, Dee, and I) left Tulsa at ten am and at a rather bad start because Tea left her purse in her garage and then had trouble finding her gas charge card, but it got smoother after that.  I hadn't slept at all the night before for some dumbass reason so I ended up taking a fifteen minute powernap during the carride while Erin and Tea talked up front.

On Hwy 75 we got trapped behind this one guy in a truck, who couldn't decide whether he wanted to slow down or speed up, and consistently cock-blocked us, traffic-wise.  This inevitably pissed Tea off, so she started a game of Road Rage, named the truck Fred, and worked her ass off to get ahead of him and stay ahead of him.

Fred apparently caught on to this, because he caught up with us, fought to get ahead of us, and then waved 'cutely' at us as he passed, which ended up cracking us all up.  Tea decided he wasn't so bad, and so we benignly shared the highway with out new friend until he put on his blinker for an exit.

Saddened by this, Tea caught up to him so that we could wave out goodbyes, and he flashed us a peace sign as he turned off.  It was a sad moment in the car trip, but we recovered quickly when we stopped off at Kenetha's place for dinner.  She had sandwiches, strawberries, potato chips, oranges, and cookies set out ready for us to gorge down, and so we did.

We got to the hotel we were staying at, The Mariott Courtyards in Richardson, got our rooms and dragged our things to them, before we hopped back into the cars and Tea drove us to the train station.  We purchased our passes, and sat around to wait for the Redline Southbound to appear.

It was during this wait that the first of my apparently newly aquired Hobo-Charm, decided to show itself.  There we were, sitting innocently, when this old man turns the corner of the stairs, walks over to me, leans over, and pulls me into a hug.  A hug in which he sniffs my hair, tells me how pretty he thinks I am, how much he likes my hair.  He then moves down the line, and hugs Tea, who's about as freaked and bewildered as I am, says something to her, moves on the JT, who's head he kisses,  down to Panda, whom he hugs too, on to Dee, who's hand he shakes.  Erin is around the corner at the time, so I'm not sure what he did to her.

We eventually finally boarded the train, more than a little bewildered and off balance, and set off for A-Kon.

We didn't actually spend much time there, Thursday, we ended up just standing in line for about 45 minutes to get our tickets and then heading back to the hotel to chill out for the rest of the night.

Friday

I woke up really fucking early, this day.  About 7:30 am, so that I could go to A-Kon with Tea and Jt in order to get there in time to meet up with my mom and memmie, who were going to take me out that day.  Anway, we got to the station at about 8:30, and A-kon at about 9, where I promptly found Seth, Anna, and Brandon.  So, I followed them around for a little while, when, eventually, Seth and I split off and wandered about the Kon for a little while.

We met up with Anna, Brandon, Megan and Ashton a little while later, because the hotel had failed to inform them of their $100 deposit before they got there, but they eventually settled that and then Seth and I wandered around some more.  Finally, at ten, my mom and memmie arrived to steal me away for the afternoon.  We went and ate at Chili's and the went to see Up, which was a cute fucking movie.  Seriously, if you haven't seen it, go and see it.  It's one of the best movies I've seen in a while.

I finally got back to the Kon, and met up with Seth again, and we wandered around until he had to go and do...something, at which point, Anna and I wandered around and had fun and she tried on a corset (which was amazing looking), and then Seth came back, and Anna went...somwhere, and then Seth went to a panel and Tea and I went and hung out for alittle while.  Tea eventually went back to the fourth floor and I wandered about by myself before deciding to brave the Dart alone.

Big mistake.

Hobo-Charm Incident # 2.  I was sitting and waiting for the Northbound when another man walks up to me, and grins at me and smiles at me.  He asked what I was doing, where I was staying, what my name was, where my friends were, if I had a boyfriend, if I had any tattoos, if I wanted any tattoos, what school I went to, if I came there often, and then if I drove a Chevrolet.  This was extremely creepy, because they were all stalker questions.  Especially creepy because I _do_ drive a chevrolet, but it was still back here in Tulsa so there's no way he should have known that. Finally, I said fuck it to the Dart, excused myself with a pretty little lie, and made my way back to the Kon.

Unfortunately, my phone was dead, and, after scouring all the floors I still couldn't find any of my friends so I ended up sitting alone in a corner near the front doors for 2 1/2 to 3 hours hoping to catch sight of one of my roomies before they left.  Luckily, Panda and Dee finally caught sight of me, and gave me hugs and Dee gave me his phone for a lifeline, and then they hightailed it to the Steampunk Dance.

I got a hold of Erin who came and got me and we went to go ride the Dart together!

Hobo-Charm Incident # 3!! So, we got on the Dart and it was a little bit crowded so we ended up having to sit next to strangers.  Of course, I'd end up in a seat with another strange man who turned to me and started asking me if I kept track of the races or the news and whatnot - this one was generally harmless, it was just that by this point I was getting really tired of crazy, homeless, and/or mentally challenged people deciding I was the perfect person ever to talk to.

Anyway, Erin and I got back to the hotel and decided to stay instead of go back to the dance, and that was pretty much the end of our day, Friday.

Saturday

Okay, so saturday I went to the Kon with Panda and Erin, quite intent on sticking with one of my roommates all day thanks to the incident with Hobo #2.  Erin and I wanted to meet up with her friends Rusty and T-Rex but they were standing in the on-site registration line, so we decided to explore while they were waiting, and we ran into another of her friends, Crow (who was A-Kon staff, acutally, on his day off), whom we ended up hanging out with for most of the day.  Panda, Crow, Erin, Rusty, T-Rex, and I combed through the Kon together for a little while, before Rusty and T-Rex broke off, and Panda, Erin, Crow and I decided to head back to the hotel for a little while so we could change into things a little bit more comfortable then what we were wearing.  As we were getting off the Dart back at A-kon, we met Tea, Jt and Dee waiting for the Dart to head back to the hotel.

Right as I joined the group, of course, Hobo # 4 approaches.  Hobo no. 4 at least admits that he's crazy, saying things such as 'I have a mental illness so I don't know if what I hear is intoxication or real', in that hobo-mumble that hobo's do.  He talks to us for a little while before Dee, Panda, Crow, Erin and I make an escape.  According to Tea and Jt, hobo # 4 decides to leave right as I'm leaving, as well, which is about the time that Ashlee's Amazingly Balls Hobo-Charm theory starts to develop.

Anyway, we stopped to eat in front of the Domino's Stand and then forced three other girls to sit down with us (Hannah, Suzanna, and I can't remember the other's name),  so that we could pretend to be the popular kids, or something.  We invited other people, but nobody else seemed too keen on it.  Gee, I wonder why? XD  We'd already lost Crow at some point, unfortunately, but later he texted Erin to tell her how drunk he was, apparently, so it seemed he wandered away to better times.  About this time, Erin and I ditched everyone else and travelled around for some last minute photo-taking.

This is when we ran into Jared, who we spent, sadly, very little time with because we were both already pretty exhausted from the day.  All the same, this is about the time we went back to the Dart station to get home.

Whilst there, Erin and I met a group of three awesome people; this group consisted of the Doctor (Doctor Who, you ask? Doctor awesome, obviously), his lovely girlfriend Brittany who cosplayed a rocking cosplay of that one-chick-from-soul-eater-whose-name-I-can't-quite-remember-because-I-suck-and-haven't-actually-watched-soul-eater-yet, and another girl named Erin with an awesomely cute outfit and a bag of dollfies.  We ended up talking to them for awhile, adn they ended up on the same line as us so we hung out with them on the bus too and trading information.

Enter Hobo no. 5.  Oh god, this was the creepiest of them _all_.  He got on the Dart, and stood right next to Erin's seat and then asked/accused us of being Warlock's and mumbled some other things in Hobo-Mumble-Speak.  When our kind Doctor informed the Crazy One that he was not, indeed, a warlock, (after hobo was all like "He is. I see him.  He's looking straight at me" in possibly the most paranoid crazy tone ever heard) but a Doctor - CRAZY GUY PULLED OUT A FUCKING, like, scalpel of some sort out of his bag and said "I'm a doctor, too".

At one point, Crazy McCrazyPants even tried to take my ticket out of my hands, and scolded either Erin or Brittany (I can't remember which) about how they need to look at him while he's speaking.

Finally, he got off and we all breathed a little easier.  Funniest bit of conversation on the Dart went something like this:

Erin: Does anyone have a pen?
the Doctor: *reaches in his pocket and pulls out a lollipop* I have a lollipop!

I'm pretty sure the entire train burst into laughter at that one.  Sadly, we soon parted ways with out new friends and hightailed it back to the hotel before anymore hobos could harrass us.

Unfortunately, that was our last day of the kon, since we were all pretty worn down at this point and didn't see a point in going on Sunday.  We got home Sunday at about five or six and then lounged around and I wrote this.

The end. XD

Pictures to come soon, I believe.  I'm just much too lazy, at the moment.

fun, a-kon, your mom, convention, dallas, a-kon 20, anime
