It certainly is...and you're living more or less in it (Brighton is just behind the hills in the top pic). Amazing how different it all looks from the top of the Downs (and how much quieter it is!).
The Downs really are fantastic cycling country, especially if you've got a mountain bike and a bit of determination (to cope with the uphill bits). There's quite a few cycle-specific routes too, you've probably seen the signs around town.
FYI, all the pics above were taken a few miles northeast of Brighton, on the Downs just north of Shoreham and Worthing.
And as we got another great day today, I went out and rode it all over again! (I'm making up for all the times I've been stuck inside with a keyboard in fromnt of me).
i was going to go cycling but not having a bike for saturday put a spanner in that one..and now i have a sore finger from a calf bite so it will be a few days at least. oh well :/
Fantastic piccies, for a few moments took me back to when I was young, bit of a shame there was not one of you on the bike would have finished it off nicely.
Well, you can just see the shadow of my head at the bottom of the enlarged version of 'Over the Hills' :)
Anyway, it'd be kind of hard to take a pic of myself on the bike up there...not exactly a lot of people around to hold the camera (and if there were a lot of people there, I'd probably go somewhere else anyway).
You could get one of those time delay cameras and stick it on top of a fence post, then grab your bike and smile, say cheese, think of sex or try and look sexy or do all of them that way its gonna be an interesting piccie.
If I go that way, I usually do them both...climb onto the Downs at Wiston, up to Chanctonbury, find some nice & very indirect route to Cissbury (via places like Pest Ho and No Man's Land) before dropping back to earth somewhere like Steyning or Devil's Dyke.
They're both great places..Cissbury is much bigger, has slightly better views to the South, and I really like the ride over the top and round the west side. On the other hand, Chanctonbury's got the view north...and steeper hills to test myself on!

Do you think Chanctonbury or Cissbury is nicer?
