According to the RSPB guide they take small birds and mammals, so whoever told you they only take carrion was clearly talking bollocks. Of course rooks have to eat too, as do owls and all the other predators, it just makes me feel bad to see it. That said, I don't actually mind the bloody antics of predators that much, because they're interesting in their own right. [And how is Harvey eating a mealworm different from a rook eating a duckling?]
Rooks are ruthless bastards.. it takes 5 minutes for the covering to be off the pond at my parents house before they're at it, trying to peck holes in the bloody Koi carp! Somehow I have more compassion for the bunny than the fish though..
That's interesting, I didn't get a notification about your comment (only spotted it when bluebirf commented on it); probably LJ having one of its occasional funny moments.

I wonder if bunnies can actually feel more pain than a fish? Or whether it's just that it's easier to imagine their feelings.
