they replaced all the awsome wooden playground stuff with shitty plastic shit in some of the playgrounds around here a few years ago. it was very sad, suposedly plastic is safer for the kids. cause people used to fall off the wooden things and break their arms and stuff.
Probably the best playground I ever played in was Specter, about halfway through Central Park from east to west near 70th street. It had three massive wooden structures built around three trees, up to a height of maybe 20-30 feet, three stories of complicated wooden Ewok-village-esque construction, the trees connected by chain-link bridges over chain-link nets. The top slide must have gone down thirty feet. This playground was slowly and painfully dismembered, piece by piece, injury by injury, lawsuit by lawsuit, over three summers. The fun for everyone was taken away just because some kids were stupid and clumsy and their parents sued. Bah.

I hate metal/plastic playgrounds. ;-; so much more fun wooden. Though, at lesat you get less SPLINTERS if it isn't wood. x_X
