posted to greygirlslash Doctor Isabel Stevens was rushing around the kitchen in a state of frenzy. Her hair was flying out of its bun and her eyes were wide as she stampeded past the counter where Meredith and George were trying to drink their morning coffee. Each was hunched over trying to take up as little space as possible while the human whirlwind whipped around them.
“There is no way we’re out of sugar!” Izzie shouted opening another cabinet.
Meredith and George exchanged a look. Meredith nudged her chin towards him. He shook his head slightly eyes wide. She lifted her eyebrows and pleaded with him. He pinched his lips and stared at her. Meredith stared back stonily until…
“Fine,” George muttered. Raising his voice he asked, “Why do you need sugar?”
Izzie whirled around to face him red and fuming, “Why do I need sugar? Really George, you want to ask me that?”
“Ummmmm,” He looked at Meredith who was studying her coffee.
“Maybe you need to be reminded of the charity bake sale I volunteered for last week? Do you recall how I asked you to pick up more sugar on the way back from the hospital last night? Or maybe you just don’t listen when I talk. Is that it George?” Izzie spat in his face.
“Ummm no…” he swallowed nervously.
“George,” Izzie said in a low dangerous voice, “Get me sugar.”
“Yes mam,” he shouted, and ran out of the house in terror.
Izzie took a deep breath and started to go back to measuring ingredients for whatever it was she intended to bake. Meredith watched her attempt to wipe flour from her nose only to smudge more on her cheek. Izzie looked like the picture of domesticity. It was cute,..... no it was hot. Meredith felt a little chill go down her back.
Izzie was mixing, her hair falling gently in her face, her clear blue eyes focused on the task at hand. She had the same look as when she went into surgery. The same look when she was intent on helping someone. There was no denying that she was beautiful, but recently Meredith had started to see her as something more than a pretty roommate. Could it be that Meredith Grey had a crush?
As she looked back to her coffee Meredith was struck by a sudden thought. If Izzie was a mother hen, did she have an Oedipus complex?
She quickly stood up and Izzie turned to look at her saying, “You’re not off the hook either. I need help with this! I need to have fifty scones, thirty muffins, and six dozen chocolate chip cookies done by noon for the bake sale. You are not getting out of helping me you promised you would.”
She took a breath but as Meredith started to say something cut her off, “I can’t do this today. With George screwing me up already you have a lot of nerve trying to sneak out like-”
“I have sugar in my car.” Meredith said quickly interrupting her, “I bought it last night because I thought you might need it with the bake sale and everything.”
Izzie looked speechless so Meredith continued, “You like things sweet. I thought you’d run out of sugar because I know you like things sweet.”
Izzie blinked. Then she swooped over and kissed Meredith hard on the lips. Meredith was too surprised to respond. When Izzie stopped she was out of breath goggling at her housemate.
“Well?” Izzie commanded, “Go get the sugar!”
Meredith jumped and ran for the door. She heard Izzie call from the kitchen.
“You’re right. I like things sweet. Remember that!”
