I do not agree with this statement:

....in the face of that unthinkable, adult truth,"that need is not transitive, that one may need without oneself being needed

Infact it is FAR from being an "Adult Truth" which even a 5 yr old understands perfectly(some times too perfectly !!)

Case in point..

A kid wanting a candy knows that his mom/dad(or whoever) does not need a candy but the candy is for him and ONLY him. nobody else..totally pure and totally selfish :).. he already knows that his needs are definitely NOT transitive.

On the other hand I will say that the so called Adult truth is that the: Need CAN be transitive ..
thats how corruption works.. u need things done and the other guy has monetary aspirations from you

and HENCE.. ditch the book, lets go out for a COFFEE :P

gah noo! I never tarballed it in the first place. :) That was a mere threat to it to ensure it did not take my good graces for granted and remembered not to be naughty.

its on its way to foundry to get born in Silicon and and get cloned. :)

Yeah, it's a great book! But as a south Indian, I've always trouble identifying with the idea of partition and related pain: it certainly hasn't changed our way of existence like how it seems to have for people in Delhi, West Bengal and suchlike places.
