Mmmm just the magic of Imbolc! Here in Boston we don't really get to celebrate the "beginning of spring" aspects of it so much as the "here's a reminder that some day winter will end...in about 3 months...no rly I promise." Sounds like in Cali you get to enjoy the true meaning. Sounds lovely :o)

I think you guys actually get a much closer version of the "true meaning of Imbolc."

To me, Imbolc has always been about looking through the harsh winter and finding the small seeds of spring that promise the continuance of life. The holly berries are the red in the otherwise bleak landscape that show the burning embers of life waiting to be stoked back to fullness in the spring. The ewes' milk comes in as a promise that new lambs will soon be born. The days grow perceptibly longer bringing hope of warmth returning. It is a time of waiting. A time of growing hope. Like the last weeks of pregnancy when the mother knows it is just a matter of time before she brings life forth from her womb.

For me, Imbolc is a time of learning patience. A time of being one with the stillness and learning to be silent in my heart and soul so I can listen to the whispers of hope and renewal. A time to incubate the fragile life waiting to be born. A time to recharge.

Even in California, the "beginning of spring" can wait for Eostara. :)

Hm I see what you mean, and you're right of course. The problem is...February is always so bloody dark and cold that it's more like the tail end of a hurricane...that's the worst part, but soon after that it will all be over. So I agree a lot with your last paragraph, for me it's about patience and faith and finding my own inner flame to help carry me through what's left of the darkness.

Although, I prefer all our snow to driving rainstorms! It seems less wet!

Blessed Imbolc to you :o)
