it was a foolish mistake to meet up outside.
but it was one jongin couldn’t really avoid, since it was taemin, lee taemin of shinee, that had called him, in need for a change of pace. jongin could never say no to taemin.
i, uh. let’s go for a walk around the block, taemin had suggested, his voice weak and throaty, as if he’d been crying.
they never got around to the walking part.
taemin looked even more miserable than jongin had expected him to, wisps of long hair clinging to his cheeks, his mouth. he wasn’t in the mood to talk about it, though, looking at jongin through his bangs, begging him to understand.
jongin had taken the hint, pulling him into an alleyway by the sleeve of his jacket and kissing him until he couldn’t remember the cause of his despair.
they shared the same air, inhaling and exhaling in the small space between them, words unnecessary.
shinee’s dancing machine, dazzling maknae, an idol respected and adored by thousands, was pliant and needy at that moment, allowing jongin to trap him against the wall. he clung to his so-called best friend with the ounces of strength he had left and hooked a slender leg around jongin’s thigh, trying to meld them into one, clothes and all.
maybe it was because of these fleeting hours that they spent in silence, despite all the comforting phrases that could be whispered, jongin felt like he knew taemin.
the distance separating them never grew into an abyss with taemin texting him at 3 am, waiting for him in a practice room, a bathroom, a broom closet.
jongin was always scolded on the following morning for zoning out or being half-assed. he still didn’t mind and went running the next time taemin wanted him. quite possibly, it was his pride that kept him going - the fact that taemin, so imperfectly perfect, needed someone on a step lower than him sometimes. he needed someone that wasn’t by his side day by day whether he liked it or not, who didn’t live through the same experiences and who would support him without reason.
that someone was jongin and it gave him a sense of power.
sure it hurt, when taemin snapped his charm back on and sparkled as if the side of him that jongin was familiar with never existed but it was a price jongin was willing to pay.
i have to get back.
the passion faded into thin air just like that, leaving both of them panting, holding onto each other as if they could fall (jongin already had). taemin pressed the cold tip of his nose into jongin’s neck, breathing in his friend’s scent before slipping out of the cage the man’s arms had created around him.
’m sorry. thank you.
he spared jongin a smile full messages forever to remain untold and tugged his scarf over the bottom half of his face. taemin didn’t look back as he walked away, he never did.
following taemin after a few seconds of composing himself, jongin was unlucky enough to be recognized by a fan on the street. he cursed in his mind for rushing out undisguised, as the girl jogged straight towards him with wide eyes.
oppa, oppa! i saw it! you were with a girl! oppa, who was she?
insistent but seemingly unbothered, the woman stole glances towards the dark corner both taemin and jongin had appeared from curiously. the freshly debuted rookie panicked as there was no way he could tell the truth.
it would be too suspicious.
uh. it-it was. my girlfriend.
