Making props: Mass Effect Arc Pistol!

So, as many of you know, I am a Mass Effect fan. I am also really into costuming. So I thought: why not do a ME-themed shoot while I'm in the US? Costuming I can handle. That's a cinch. My keen sense of spatial perception tells me that unless you did some fairly major modifications of the structure of that weapon, the pictures at the top do not represent the actual starting gun.

No, you're right - those are just examples I googled because I forgot to take a picture of the actual gun before I started painting it. =)

So I did something similar with a nerf gun, and I found with shiny plastic, it's actually better (and requires fewer coats of paint) to sand it first until the plastic isn't as shiny.

Mm. The one coat of white definitely made it a lot easier - it was a powdery and matte finish, which held the paint awesomely like the plastic never would've. =)
