I honestly think we should care less about spelling, and just accept British or American spelling as it comes and not worry about it. I do, in fact, find it jarring to see American spelling where I don't expect it, but I think it would be better to just get used to that For me, I'm used to it in many places, so it's fairly easy -- I think it may be harder for Americans who are less exposed to British spelling. I would mostly say each text should try to be consistent, and otherwise we should live and let live
