Black Swan

Jan 09, 2011 22:46

People who have seen my icon and recognise the film it's from (The Red Shoes, 1948) will probably guess that I've been eager to see Black Swan for a while now. I couldn't wait for an official UK release, either... LOL.

Longish, rambling review; cut for spoilers )

Hi you!:D
No need to be embarrassed about not seeing the Red Shoes - it's a 1948 British film! It's very much a period piece, but really beautiful to look at (colour films being so new, they really went to town on the visuals). I adore the films of Powell and Pressburger (the directors) and this one is special to me because it links my grandmother and my mother to me because we all loved it. :)

So, no need to see it beforehand, but if you enjoy Black Swan I do recommend seeking it out. There are too few ballet films out there!

p.s. Switzerland soon! So excited :D

I can't wait to see this movie but hadn't even heard of The Red Shoes, so now I'll have to see them both. ;D Thank you!

No problem! :) I recommend all Powell & Pressburger movies because they're so visual, metaphoric and imaginative. The Red Shoes recently had a remastering and they showed it at our local arts cinema - I was so happy lol.
