Oh my dear, I am with you 100%. The 4th has been my favorite holiday for ages. Like you it isn't for particularly patriotic reasons, more the gathering of friends, the bbqing, the watermelon, the very very long day followed by fireworks, and somehow managing to watch 1776 on my ipad during it all. But holy smokes we are in a dire situation here. It is scary and I want to be hopeful but feeling hopeful even feels a bit hopeless.
You are always such a beacon of brightness to me in my dark days, I wish I could shine some light for you right now. Sending you my love ❤️ that's all I've got.

I'm sorry you are feeling this way. I can't imagine how hard it must be to face such a deep disappointment. National identity narratives in the United States have always been very strong, I imagine it must be very painful to be in the middle of such a crisis.

Thanks. I’m no more optimistic now, but I’m out of my fussy mood, so that’s something. I sometimes feel bad because even on our worst day, we have it so much better than many countries, but it is so hard to watch such a strong government crumble before your very eyes. I wouldn’t be as disappointed if an outside force were threatening us, but this is our own citizens as well as people who are in power who have seemingly lost their minds and only care about themselves. Ugh! Thanks for listening to my rant.
