That said, on to real thoughts: tying in to previous ideas, how is Horace Slughorn the spidery Slytherin going to fit with Snape living in Spinner's End? My nose smells an extended spider metaphor, I tell you!

YES. My thoughts exactly.

(I assume you've read farther - please don't tell me if I'm right or wrong. But 'Spinner's END' suggests...)

I must be thick, because after I'd finished reading "Spinner's End" I didn't think it referred to a place at all. I assumed it meant, "Here comes the death of the wily spinner." I just now looked back at that chapter and saw that that was the name of the street, which somehow escaped me. Damn, I'm waiting, like, a half-hour or more between each chapter and I'm STILL rushing through this book too fast!

"We won't be attacked."
"Why not?"
"Because you are with me."

Hahahahahahaha! Yeah, I'm remembering why I liked Dumbledore in the beginning.

And I like Horace. He's a Hobbit, like me. Ambition is all very well, but that doesn't beat a solid meal and a soft armchair with a warm blanket. 8-)

I was a bit dissappointed at the Harry/Voldemort connection thing: no dreams and mindreading anymore, just like that? I hope there's something in later chapters to make up for it.

The smile slid from Slughorn's face as quickly as the blood from his walls.

I simply love this sentence, standing on it's own.
No idea why, but it's so surreal :)....

And anyone thought about Inferi-Sirius? Lucky we don't have a body, eh?

Exactly: "Well, damn, I have to get rid of that Legilimency thing this book. I know, we'll just say that..." It's too pat for me too.

Inferi-Sirius

Holy S**T. *hyperventilates* No body. No body. Keep telling self that...

An excellent argument for burning the dead. So long as a literal body is required to create an Inferius.

Dammit, dammit, dammit, either I need more grief from Harry over Sirius and I'm ticked, or Rowling's setting us up to not get too bogged down with Harry's grief because Sirius IS going to show up in some way. Dammit, I hate the suspense. Just because there's been two intervening years for the reader, it's been a fortnight for Harry. Dammit, Jo, I need more resolution that this!!!

If the reason Sirius had to die was so that Harry could get 12 Grimmauld Place I'm taking my ball and going home, I swear.

And, oh, this Slughorn. Yeah, and some of MY best friends are minorities, too. Harry, you give him all those cold "Not really"s that you got in ya. I like Slughorn's mild ickiness here. Nifty depth.

This: "It is a thrilling tale, I wish to do it justice. " He smiled at Harry, who understood that he was not being snubbed, and that he had permission to keep asking questions. Oh, that's so deft. Yeah, I did miss Dumbledore in OotP.
