I think that, like Tom Riddle, Harry has a tendency to make assumptions that are so totally wrong based on incomplete and/or slanted information. Which gives me hope for Malfoy yet. A tiny, pathetic little shred of hope, but OMG it lives.

Harry should NOT trust Dumbledore so blindly. Didn't he learn anything in fifth year? No, WAIT. He's not looking Dumbledore in the eye... But as an aside, how many children's books have any of you read that incorporate the phrase "that little slut"? I know there's all sorts of other stuff in here that I wouldn't read to my eight year old (provided I weren't a proud non-parent, of course) but that one just really surprised me.

Also I believe that JKR did say that it wasn't Tom. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think people kept asking and she said that she'd already said that it wasn't Voldemort so therefore it wasn't Tom.
