Oh yes, indeed...and if the post is indeed cursed, what is to become of our dear Snape???

This is excellent.

I love the curse on the Defence position! Fanon becomes canon!

Thanks, that's what I was just wondering! Probably taught one year, took a year off to study (and pick up a nice little friend in his head! *cough*) and came back the next year (Harry's first).

Hee. . .Lord Voldemort/Miss Hepzibah. . .:D

I'm sure Gryffindor's sword is caught up in all of this. . .perhaps he'll have to fight the final battle with it?

Wait, Dumbledore just said that they hadn't been able to keep a DADA teacher for more than a year since he refused Voldemort to the post. . .but I thought that Quirrell was on for more than a year? The twins or someone said he was a good teacher until he'd taken the practical trip and gotten scared off his subject. . .I'm so confused!

i was just as confused on the DADA thing... even the lexicon agrees.

Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher until Y12. Quirrell took a school year off a few years back and went to Albania to get first hand experience dealing with Dark creatures and Dark magic.

I'm wondering if Draco's assignment is related. Perhaps he's supposed to get the sword?

I thought about that as well. I guess it's heavily protected...

Is...cripes, are we going to find out that Dumbledore was killed before the book even began? And that Voldemort took his place? No, wait, Dumbledore's been too wittily Dumbledore; that's probably not going to be it. But, dammit, that memory that Dumbledore says is his could just as easily be Voldemort's, couldn't it? Except that Dumbledore was alone in the room before Voldemort walked in...Dammit. Confuzzled.

But that House Elf's memory...it walked out of the room, too...

I'm getting those vibes myself.

Well, we've seen that the pensieve memories stretch pretty far, though, right? Because Harry was in Snape's in OoTP, but was listening in on conversations (the Marauders) that Snape almost certainly wasn't even aware of, and was just keeping Snape within sight, for some of it.

Which means they could be Tom's memories we've actually been seeing.

So, he wanted the DADA position that bad... But what gets me even more is his fascination with Founders artifacts. Though I'd imagine he'd want Slytherin ones more than the others. So, is that what Draco was looking to buy? Or at least talking to Borgin about?

And another new canon fact. Dumbledore was Headmaster somewhere around ten years after Tom left Hogwarts. Fascinating. :)

I was wondering if that's what Draco might have been after, too. Moreso when the lady was referring to them as a "pair" and I thought they might actually be two of the same thing, rather than two rather different things with similar histories.

Yes, that was what I was thinking, too. It was the "Pair" that caught my attention.

I see that some other people have seized on this idea, too, but I felt like I had to mark my place and run over here to say, as I read the last lines of chapter 20...

The DADA position is -never held for more than a year-? Why the hell would Snape want it? Why would the Death Eaters (namely Bella and Narcissa) believe he wanted it? (The students I can understand more easily, because kids believe all sorts of things) Why hasn't anyone noticed before? Wouldn't that memory have to be around twenty years old? That's a -lot- of DADA teachers, even if some of them manage somehow to do more than one year by taking sabbaticals or whatever.

Most importantly, though, what does it mean that Dumbledore has put Snape in the DADA position, now???
