OMG! I just realized. I was wondering about the significance of "Spinner's End" being Snape's home back when we first saw it, and now I actually get it. The "Spinner" is not Snape but Dumbledore, and Snape is his end. Totally foreshadowing in hindsight. :)

I knew the name was going to be significant.

You could even expand on that, saying that a 'spinner' is like a spider (spinning a web) and that Aragog's death should've been some kind of foreshadowing.

Harry's only commitment was to being an auror - not to gallavanting off on a personal crusade to destroy Voldemort.

I have to disagree with this. In PoA when Harry and Hermione have gone back in time he sees Scabbers in Hagrid's Hut (when Hagrid gives him back to Ron) and the Harry from the future moves to go into the hut to grab the rat. Hermione holds him back and Harry says something along the lines of "But he got my parents killed."

I believe that with all that Harry has seen and gone through because of Snape, Pettigrew & Voldemort the urge to at least stop the evil from spreading is a desire that Harry displays. Look at how much time Harry is spending following Draco around in HBP. He is no longer going to be a victim of Voldemorts. Finding out the Death Eater's plots (through Draco) has become an obsession that he can't let go of.

The next logical step in this process is for him to confront and defeat Voldemort.

My Take on the book is HERE and HERE2

The highlights for me were the inane fanon produced things, like Voldemort having ZOMBIES, the lovely imagery amanuensis1 provided of DEMENTORS BREEDING, nearly dying on page 169 when I imagined Alan Rickman's voice lovingly caressing the words 'dark arts', and of course the final climax ( ... )

I had this entire theory that it was McLaggen who tried to off Katie and Ron since he IS a Quidditch freak, and it would've made sense and been good to see corruption from the inside.

Oooh, interesting. I would have liked to have seen that as well. That subplot seemed to go nowhere as well, just like all her other subplots that just randomly got thrown together at the end.

Sigh.

Yeah true, and new characters generally annoy me if they do something special but ultimately do nothing. Still, it's better than seeing Draco fail so miserably and pathetically at hurting people.

I hope JKR is typing her little heart out, and correcting mistakes for the second edition, like the one on page 42.

Yay, I noticed that too! I thought maybe fug was some English thing I didn't know, so I made a note to look it up later :D. I'm so glad I'm not the only one to notice that!

Gurgle.

1) This book made me realize that Snape was one of my favorite characters. It'll hurt like a bitch if the Dumbledore-wanted-his-death-to-happen theory doesn't work out.

2) Breaking news: Draco has depth! (Sort of.)

3) Yay for awesome female characters.

4) Harry Potter could not get over how butt-rapingly hot Tom Riddle was. Let's tally up how many times the word "handsome" was used.

5) The book read like fanfiction. Seriously, every common scenario (except for the slash... aw) was used. The Black sisters, weepy!Draco, Snape vs. Harry show-down, EVERY FRIGGIN' SHIP IN THE WORLD ALL CRAMMED INTO ONE CHAPTER. (I'm not a major supporter of any ship, so I didn't really mind them. I thought they were rushed, but I liked the way it all turned out.)

My comments are here.

*Every* ship? Really? Are there hints for Ron/Luna, Harry/Hermione, Harry/Luna, etc?
