They should be able to talk to DD in the picture. I guess they didn't wanna wake him up. Stupid Umbridge. BLegh. But there msut be a reason fo her being at the funeral, dunno. But yes that was annoying. Harry/Ginny and Ron/hyermione are cute. And i hope harry's not alone too. That would be bad. i love the others.

Mmmm. I think that they can still talk to him, but who knows how much "like" the real DD the portrait will be, or how much the portrait will know. Was it actually painted by someone? Would the portrait then only remember up to the point it was painted?

I'm sure we'll find out lots about it next book...I wanna know if/what it will say about Snape!

I don't think portraits are a way to communicate with the dead - they're more like a shadow of the person left behind, like someone who knew the dead person well enough that you could ask them "What would Dumbledore think about this?" and they'd be able to answer..it might have memories, it might not. Probably not, because if it did, you could paint portraits of murdered people and have them tell the truth about their attackers and I don't think the magical world quite works like that. There have to be some dead ends and Jo has said before that death is one of them.

About it saying something about Snape, I don't think it would be in Dumbledore's nature to disclose anything anyway, even if the portrait-Dumbledore can remember.

Hi by the way, I just found this comm and liked it ^_^
